Kunal Kemmu’s latest directorial venture promises a comedy experience that stands out with its quirky humour, sharp punchlines and entertaining first half. The actor has not only directed the film but has also written, produced and acted in it, sharing the screen with Sparsh Shrivastav.
The 145 minute film revolves around two friends, Bugs and Hardik, played by Sparsh Shrivastav and Kunal Kemmu respectively. Bugs, whose real name is Bhagirath Bhargav, helps his older friend Hardik land a job at his own company. Things take an unexpected turn when Hardik falls in love with a girl named Kareena. What begins as a simple story soon develops into a matter concerning national security, eventually taking the two friends to Thailand on a mission for the country.
The first half is where the film truly shines. Kemmu’s writing manages to keep the humour consistent, with one punchline following another. The review particularly praises the comic timing of both Kunal and Sparsh, which helps translate the humour from the script onto the screen. The film reportedly begins entertaining the audience right from its opening frame, making it important not to miss even the initial moments.
The performances also add to the fun. Vanshika makes an impression in her role, while Yashpal Sharma and Niroha are also appreciated for their performances. However, Preity Zinta receives criticism for appearing rather robotic in her portrayal of Madam H, with the review questioning whether the character was the right fit for her or whether the role could have been interpreted differently.
The second half, however, does not maintain the momentum established earlier. The film brings in elements such as deepfake AI and several contemporary themes, but the execution becomes slower and the punchlines become less frequent. The narrative also becomes somewhat confusing, making this portion feel weaker compared to the highly entertaining first half.
Despite these shortcomings, the strong comic writing and performances in the first half manage to make the film an entertaining theatrical watch. The review recommends reaching the theatre on time, as the humour begins right from the opening frame.
