Qazi Touqeer, who rose to fame after winning the singing reality show Fame Gurukul, has opened up about his long absence from the entertainment industry and the circumstances that led to him disappearing from the limelight. The singer, who is now witnessing renewed love and attention, recently revisited a chapter from his past and revealed how a decision he made at the age of 20 ended up affecting his career.
During a conversation with actress Amrapali Dubey, Qazi spoke about his comeback after 22 years and whether he had anticipated receiving so much love and recognition once again. Responding to her question, the singer explained why he had been missing from the industry and recalled an incident involving television czarina Ektaa Kapoor that became a major turning point in his journey.
Qazi revealed that he had signed a film in 2005, but the project never materialised. He also shared that soon after his victory in Fame Gurukul, Ektaa Kapoor had approached him for a show. However, the singer was just 20 years old at the time and admitted that he was completely awestruck by Ektaa’s presence.
Recalling the meeting, Qazi shared that he was so fascinated by Ektaa that he kept looking at the rings she was wearing. He further revealed that he whispered into Anupama’s ears that he did not want to take up the show because he wanted to pursue films instead. What followed, however, was something he had not anticipated.
According to Qazi, the very next day, newspapers carried reports suggesting that he had ‘ditched’ Ektaa Kapoor. The singer expressed his disappointment over how the situation was portrayed in the media, claiming that he was defamed and had no real way to put his side of the story across. With social media not being around in the way it is today, he felt he could do little to correct the narrative or defend himself against the reports.
Qazi’s revelation offers a glimpse into the challenges he faced at a crucial stage of his career.
