Known for lighting up the screen with her positive roles, television veteran Narayani Shastri is taking a thrilling detour in COLORS’ supernatural show ‘Noyontara’, where she plays not one, but two strikingly different characters. In this suspense-filled tale centered on a ghost-whisperer trying to shield her husband, Narayani portrays two mothers-in-law Lata and Lalita, who are locked in a psychological tug of war. Their twisted dynamic leaves Noyontara, played by Shruti Bhist, in the middle of a chilling mystery: one of them seems to be protecting her… while the other might be setting her up for something sinister.
Set in the mysterious Pari Mahal, the show dives deep into a world woven with secrets, spirits, and manipulation. Narayani is clearly relishing the chance to portray two powerful women, each with her own brand of strength and mystery. She describes the essence of the show as a “constant dance of doubt,” one where viewers are never quite sure who to trust. That ambiguity, she says, is what makes the story, and her role so gripping.
“What instantly drew me to Noyontara was the duality — playing two women who are both powerful, but in completely different ways,” Narayani shares. “Lata is calculated, cold, and always ten steps ahead, while Lalita is instinctive, raw, and fiercely protective. But what makes this so thrilling is that the audience doesn’t know which one can be trusted. It’s not your usual good-versus-evil.
It’s a dance of doubt, where you’re never sure who’s the saviour… and who’s the villain.”Narayani reflects on how the show plays with the idea of masks, how people often hide their true selves, and that’s what fuels the suspense in Noyontara. She appreciates that the script doesn’t spoon-feed answers but lets the mystery slowly unravel, leaving viewers hanging on every twist.
As the storyline currently unfolds, Lata is subtly working to erase Lalita from existence, while plotting to gain full control over Pari Mahal. She even takes the bold step of welcoming Noyontara as her daughter-in-law, a move that escalates the tension and danger. For Narayani, this psychological layer adds depth to the drama. “As an actor, it’s such a joy to dive into a script that doesn’t hand the answers to the viewer on a platter but lets the mystery unfold slowly, keeping both the character and the audience in a space of emotional tension,” she adds.
She concludes with a personal note, saying this role gave her what she’d been longing for: unpredictability. “After years in television, I was craving something unpredictable, and this felt like stepping into uncharted waters. That’s what makes Noyontara special for me.”
In the latest track, Noyontara returns to Pari Mahal, only to face a chilling riddle: Surjo’s mother may be dead… but then, who is the woman living in Pari Mahal?
