Anasua Chowdhury, known for her roles in Dil Dosti Dance on Channel V and episodic shows like Savdhaan India, Fear Files, and C.I.D., as well as her appearance in the movie Laal Singh Chaddha, currently stars in Waack Girls. Anasua, who plays the character of LP, a fashion designer, shares that this is the first OTT fictional show inspired by real-life experiences with Waacking, and she’s thrilled about its release on Amazon Prime.
“I feel more than blessed and grateful to be a part of such a historic show. It’s not just about the dance but also about how these women, with their individual lives, come together through this art form,” she said.
She explained that the show holds personal significance for her, as she herself is a Waacker and has been practicing this dance style for over a decade. “The girls in the show are from Kolkata, and so am I in real life. Like Ishani, who is my real-life friend from Waack Girls, we used to do Waacking together back in Kolkata when we were kids. Now, to be part of the same show with her, representing this dance style, means a lot to me,” she shared.
“We never imagined that we would end up as actors in the same show, Waacking just like we used to back then,” she added.
Anasua expressed her excitement about the show focusing entirely on women, saying, “These characters each face their own struggles in life, but this dance somehow gives them the freedom to break free and live in the moment.”
She highlighted how the dance empowers them, making them feel fierce, fabulous, and strong. “There are parts in the show where you’ll see stereotypes being broken, especially about how women are expected to carry themselves in society. The rest, you’ll have to watch the show to see,” Anasua concluded.
