Television star Shoaib Ibrahim recently shared an emotional, eye-opening update on his wife Dipika Kakar’s ongoing health journey. In a heartfelt video, he revealed she was diagnosed with an aggressive, tennis-ball sized tumour in her left liver lobe, classified as Stage 2 cancer with a risk of recurrence. The initial shock came after Dipika complained of stomach pain, at first attributed to acidity, prompting tests that unveiled the tumour Reflecting on that tense June morning, Shoaib shared how he sat outside the operation theatre at Kokilaben Hospital, anxiously awaiting news. That memory still brings pause: “I can’t forget that date, June 3rd,” he said. Post-surgery, doctors confirmed the tumour was indeed aggressive, though thankfully, no cancer cells were detected elsewhere. Still, they’ve advised Dipika to begin targeted therapy, an oral medication regime taken daily at home, with supplemental immunotherapy if needed, that will continue for two full years.

While discussing treatment, Dipika confessed to feeling apprehensive: “I’m scared… not knowing how my body will react”. But the doctors, including newly onboarded oncologist Dr. Imran Sheikh, emphasized that she’s physically fit to start slowly, simple exercises like walking, avoiding heavy-duty activity, and following a liver-friendly diet were recommended. Despite all this, Dipika’s incredible spirit shines through. Their two-year-old son, Ruhaan, has adapted beautifully, even stepping back from feeding times with Mom when needed. And while Dipika was confined to hospital and fraught with worry, Shoaib and their family stood strong, his sister Saba was even moved to tears upon learning the news.

After a 14-hour-long surgery, the tumour, gall bladder, and a portion of Dipika’s liver were removed. The first post-surgery photo on social media shows her out of ICU and recovering steadily. Doctors are optimistic, noting that the liver can regenerate itself, giving hope for full recovery. Shoaib concludes with a truly human plea: “We’re so grateful for all your prayers. Please keep them coming.” Their story is a powerful reminder of resilience, love, and the healing power of community.
