Sulochana Latkar popularly known as Sulochana passed away at the age of 94. She has acted in 250 Hindi films and 50 Marathi films.
Sulochana and Nirupa Roy epitomized the “mother” roles right from 1959 until the early 1990s.
She had shared screen space with many popular actors like Ashok Kumar, Balraj Sahni, Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Sunil Dutt, Dharmendra, Jitendra, etc.
Sulochana was popular for her lead roles in Marathi films such as Sasurvas (1946), Vahinichya Bangdya (1953), Meeth Bhakar, Sangte Aika (1959) and Dhakti Jau (1958).
She was popular for films like Sujata, Kati Patang, Johny Mera Naam, Kasauti, Muqqadar Ka Sikandar, Dil Deke Dekho, Do Ustad, Ab Dilli Dur Nahin, Aaye Din Bahaar Ke, Majboor, Dil Daulat Duniya, Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai, Duniya, Amir Garib, Pyar Mohabbat, Aadmi, etc.
Sulochana was awarded Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1999. She was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. She was also awarded Maharashtra Bhushan Award, the highest honor of the state in 2009.
Sulochana had a daughter Kanchan Ghanekar who was married to the late Kashinath Ghaneker (a popular Marathi stage actor).
Sulochana Didi was admitted at Shushrusha Hospital, Dadar. The Prabhadevi resident took her last breath on the hospital bed. She was battling prolonged respiratory illness and several other age-related issues. Her last rites will take place today at 5 pm at Shivaji Park Crematorium, Dadar. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde while expressing her grief said, a motherly figure has been lost and she will be cremated with the state honors.
