Shreya Ghoshal turns 39 Today. She started singing at the age of 4. At the age of 6, she started learning classical music. She is currently the highest paid female singer in our country and currently the best female singer of this generation.
Shreya has recorded songs in over 20 languages of which major being Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Marathi, etc. She has recorded over 2500 songs in her entire career.
She won the TV singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma and was noticed by filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s mother. SLB’s mother Leela advised the filmmaker to give a chance to Shreya Ghoshal as a playback singer in films. Her first recroded song was Bairi Piya along with Udit Narayan for Devdas. Shreya became the voice of Paro played by Aishwarya Rai in Devdas. Shreya had a total of 5 songs in Devdas. Shreya’s voice became the talk of the town after Devdas released. Shreya won her first Filmfare Award for Dola Re and her first National Film Award for Bairi Piya.
Shreya Ghoshal has received Filmfare Award for the Best Female Playback Singer for 6 times (2nd most).
She has won National Award for the Best Female Playback Singer for 4 times (3rd most). Apart from Dola Re, she won the awards for songs Dheere Jalna (Paheli – 2005), Yeh Ishq Haaye (Jab We Met – 2007) and for the songs Pherari Mon from Bengali Film Antaheen (2008) and Jiv Rangla from Marathi Film Jogwaa (2008).
Shreya won back to back Filmfare awards in 2003 and 2004. In 2004, she won the award for the song Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai from the film Jism (2003). In 2008, she won the award for the song Barso Re from the film Guru (2007). In 2009, she got the award for the song Teri Ore from Singh is Kinng (2008). In 2016, she got the award for song Deewani Mastani from the Bajirao Mastani (2015). In 2019, she won her 6th award for the song Ghoomar from the film Padmaavat (2018). Out of 6 awards she got 3 awards for singing a song in SLB’s film.
