Actor, producer, entrepreneur Samantha Ruth Prabhu has always believed in doing things off the beaten path. She’s carved a niche for herself and today stands for beliefs very firmly set in the idea of “chasing ambition with a purpose”.
In a recent interview she did with Foodpharmer, she reveals how she no longer works with brands that aren’t aligned with her beliefs of contributing positively to people and lives.
“My goal each day is to be better”, says Samantha about making conscious choices. Being previously attached to a host of brands that are mainstream, big ticket brands, she was always assured of its contribution to her success. “When you are young , you make a lot of mistakes When I entered this industry in my 20’s, the symbol of being success was basis the number of projects you have, the number of brands you endorse and how many brands want your face on their products and I was very happy that all of these big multinational brands wanted me as their brand ambassador. I considered this as a symbol of recognition, fame and that I have ‘arrived’ and that’s what everyone around told me!”
“When I was younger and before my autoimmune disorder was detected, I thought I was invincible and used to even consume a lot of these brands myself. I thought it will have zero repercussions. But today, i realise that I couldn’t be more wrong. I was almost forced to introspect on my choices and I knew I had to follow what feels right. Today, I feel that my younger self should apologize to my older self for doing all the nonsense and that’s exactly why I want to appeal to my younger audience to not think that they are invincible in their 20’s. I have learned that the hard way! ” She said in the chat.
Talking about the ads that have been doing the rounds of the Internet, she says, “These are ads from endorsements done a very long time ago. I’ve said no to and let go of about 15 endorsements just last year and ofcourse that a huge loss of revenue. I now vet my brands with 3 doctors before I agree to endorse it” continues Samantha.
Samantha has been at the forefront of health and wellness across various facets – be it with healthcare, clean eating and personal care brands like Urban Kissan, NourishYou or her health podcast Take 20 or even her association with the World Pickleball League as team owner of the Chennai Super Champs following her faith of hoping to inspire a fitter India.
