Chillar Party was the first film produced by Salman Khan Films (SKF). SKF also produced Bajrangi Bhaijaan which is Salman Khan’s finest film of this millennium. Apart from Chillar Party and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, SKF has been consistently delivering poor content such as Hero, Tubelight, Race 3, Loveyatri, Notebook, Bharat, Dabangg 3, Kaagaz, Radhe, Antim and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. Farrey is not a great film but it proves that SKF has potential to provide much better content than all these mediocre content films which it has been serving us.

Niyati (Alizeh) is a talented orphan residing in a Delhi orphanage under her warden’s (Ronit Roy) care and attains the highest rank nationally in the 10th board exams which helps her in securing a scholarship for admission to a prestigious school. Influenced by her affluent friends (Sahil Mehta, Prasanna Bisht and Zeyn Shaw), she becomes involved in an intricate cheating scheme, leading her into a high-stakes world with escalating risks and lucrative rewards.

Farrey can be labeled as a crime drama or a crime thriller. It is an Indian adaptation of Thai film Bad Genius. Farrey is directed by Soumendra Padhi of Jamtara fame. Jamtara was also a crime drama which was based about a phishing scam where a group of people are involved in cheating. The genre and cheating theme are the common factors between Jamtara and Farrey. Soumendra scores average marks, in order to copy the answers hastily from ‘Bad Genius’ without even checking them properly.

Alizeh is the class topper in terms of acting. It is very hard to believe that Farrey is Alizeh’s debut film. Alizeh is a treat to watch in intense and emotional scenes. Salman Khan should be super proud by launching her niece Alizeh, who has given a mature performance. It’s a promising start for Alizeh, who should carry her form by delivering fine performances in her future projects. Prasanna Bisht plays the role of a spoiled brat of a rich father. She owns the role and plays it with utmost perfection. She plays the role of an urban girl in the most convincing way. Sahil Mehta acts as natural as he can be. The way he transforms his character is something to watch out for. Zeyn Shaw gets the difficult question paper set (less impressive character as compared to others), but cracks it easily by scoring good marks. Ronit Roy is a wonderful actor who doesn’t fail to impress with his wonderful performance. Ronit Roy acts like a senior student who consistently keeps on scoring good marks. Juhi Babbar Soni is extremely beautiful in terms of looks as well as performance. Shilpa Shukla is decent as principal and doesn’t get much to express like she did in Chak De India and B.A. Pass. Farrey gets a 100% result where not a single student (actor) fails in the exams (performance).

A huge shoutout to Soumendra Padhi for being a wonderful mentor and providing best tuition classes to all the students, which helped them to secure good grades. Soumendra deserves all the praise for taking out the best from each and every actor.

Farrey gets some answers right and some wrong. The screenplay tries to create tension and thrill in some parts but fails to create the same atmosphere and momentum throughout the whole film. Farrey has a fast paced screenplay which doesn’t bore much and increases the curiosity of the viewer.

The writing of Farrey has some loopholes and flaws where the marks should be deducted. Some answers (scene) turn out to be only partly correct with no proper conclusion. Some answers are left unanswered. It seems that the students (writers) were in a hurry to complete the exam paper without paying much attention to the final output. Before submitting the answer sheet (finalizing the script) a thorough check to all the answers would have helped in scoring much better marks. The last 20 minutes of the film doesn’t seem to be much appealing. The makers have rushed the film in those last 20-25 minutes which hurts the narrative. An impactful end would have made Farrey much better than what it is.

Salman Khan has introduced many people in Bollywood and each one of them has turned out to be disappointing. Alizeh tops the list of all those actors which have been introduced by Salman Khan in Bollywood. If not the film, Salman Khan can be proud of her niece for delivering such a hard-hitting performance in her debut film. Salman Khan should focus on making more and more content oriented films instead of making all those crap. Salman should give a chance to all those talented directors and actors who can showcase their skills by delivering a good product.

Farrey is based on a subject which is untouched in Bollywood. There are many scenes in the film which will attract the viewers. The copying techniques are nicely shown and can be enjoyed by those who have not watched the original. Farrey has some moments which can be enjoyed by the fans who like this genre.

Overall Farrey is a film which can be given a try when it comes on OTT platform. The film has nothing larger than life which can be enjoyed on the big screen. The fim has nothing extraordinary which can be celebrated on big screen. Salman Khan Films who is known for delivering craps has tried something different this time and has partly succeeded in it. An average affair.

Rating – 2.5/5*
