5 years ago Good Newwz was released which dealt with the topic of IVF. The film told a hilarious and emotional story about 2 couples whose sperm got mixed with each other leading to chaos. The makers of Good Newwz came up with another unique and hilarious story titled ‘Bad Newz’. Bad Newz is opposite of Good Newwz and tells the story of heteropaternal superfecundation. In Bad Newz, twin children are born to the same mother but from different biological fathers.
Good Newwz was released in 2019, and it was a Good News for the audience as they were going to witness one of the finest urban comedies of the last decade in Bollywood. Good Newwz also brought Good News to the makers as it collected around 200 cr at the domestic box office. Bad Newz, as the title suggests, is Bad News for the audience, because this film fails to deliver. Bad Newz is also going to bring Bad News for the makers, as it won’t even earn half of Good Newwz.
Bad Newz has a dull script which is fully scattered. The film does not hit you emotionally. The humor seems to be forced and only adds limited laughs. The one liners and punchlines are not that effective. This is a full 140 minutes melodramatic show which becomes unbearable after one point. The film has a large number of loopholes in every section.
Saloni Bagga (Triptii Dimri) marries Akhil Chadha (Vicky Kaushal), but things don’t work out and they part their ways. On her way to achieve her dreams, Saloni meets Gurbir Pannu (Ammy Virk). She then has one night stands with both Gurbir and Akhil. She gets pregnant and the doctors inform her that this is once in a billion case of heteropaternal superfecundation, in which two different eggs are fertilized in the ovary of a woman with sperm from two different men. This whole thing creates unnecessary chaos, as both Akhil and Gurbir try to win her.
Vicky Kaushal is one of the finest actors of this generation. He has proved his versatility, as he can fit into any character. Vicky as Akhil Chadha – Sab Toh Vada is Vadda (big) in terms of acting. Vicky easily gets into the character and delivers an honest performance. Triptii Dimri is still in the Animal zone and makers have presented her in the same bold avatar. Triptii looks gorgeous and does a decent job. Ammy Virk is the Punjabi Munda here who is not as hilarious as Diljit Dosanjh (referring to Good Newwz), but does a fine job. The casting is brilliant, but the script is dumb. Ananya Panday’s cameo is unnecessarily added. She hardly knows how to act and here she is shown portraying herself who is going to do a biopic on Saloni’s (Triptii Dimri) life, this is something funny. Neha Dhupia has got a role where she doesn’t leave any impact. Sheeba Chadha’s character creates disturbance on-screen and in the minds of the viewers. Neha Sharma looks extremely gorgeous in that short cameo of hers. The remaining cast is not very impressive.
The music is not impressive and genuine music lovers. People who are only interested in making reels and tik-tok videos will love the music. Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam is the best track and the credit goes to the original. Tauba Tauba is only watchable for Vicky’s killer moves. Good News is that we got to see Vicky – the dancer, and in future we can expect a lot more crazy dance steps from Vicky. Jaanam is an extended version of Pehle Bhi Main (in terms of visuals). The BGM ‘Akhil Chadha – Sab Toh Vadda’ deserved a full track and it would surely have been a vadda (big) hit. Remaining tracks will fade away from people’s minds.
The worst part of this film is its characters. Not a single character looks convincing. Each and every character is full of flaws. Triptii’s character keeps on making mistakes only to unsettle the audience. All the 3 lead characters don’t make much sense and are presented in a dumb manner. Tripti Dimrii is the dumbest of all, and it won’t be wrong to say that it’s ‘Triptii Dumbri’ and not ‘Triptii Dimri’. The makers tried to create a love triangle but failed badly.
The idea of creating a chaotic scenario on the basis of heteropaternal superfecundation which is once in a billion cases was unique, but the execution is extremely poor. Anand Tiwari had impressed with his directorial skills in Love Per Square Foot and Bandish Bandits, but here he fails miserably. He tries to experiment a lot of things only to end up with disappointment. He fails to deliver a healthy product.
Bad Newz is a confused script which completely gives justice to its title. The makers have also tried to rush things by showcasing a logicless and ineffective climax. Bad News for Bollywood continues, as we will have to wait for some more time to witness a good film. The characters repeat the same mistakes once again in the end, making the whole narrative pointless.
Bad Newz literally comes as Bad News for the audience, as it fails to deliver. Bad Newz is, Bollywood is short of good stories and continues to make dumb stories by fooling audience. Bad Newz is, if you watch this film you will waste your time and money, so plan accordingly.
