Aata Vel Zaali is a Marathi film which deals with the subject of euthanasia and the right to die. The film is directed by Ananth Narayan Mahadevan who has already delivered a Masterpiece like Mi Sindhutai Sapkal in Marathi Cinema. The film stars veteran actors like Dilip Prabhavalkar and Rohini Hattangadi in the lead roles.

Euthanasia is not legalized in India. Euthanasia is the practice of intentionally ending life to eliminate pain and suffering. The film deals about an old couple who wish to end their lives at the age of 65 and 70 respectively. The couple appeals to the government and also files a PIL in the court to grant them permission for euthanasia. The taboo and sensitive subject like euthanasia has been dealt beautifully and handled with care.

The film is full of many thought provoking scenes which will make you think out of the way and root for the characters, even if you are against euthanasia. Euthanasia is a debatable or sometimes a controversial issue, but the makers have presented both sides with proper logical explanations. The couple wishes to end their lives because they think they have lived to the fullest and now don’t see any purpose in living more. They don’t want to suffer any unnecessary pain caused by life-threatening illness. They decide to have a happy ending to their lives.

Suicide and euthanasia are two different things and many people always misinterpret these two terms. The film beautifully showcases the difference between a suicide and euthanasia.

If a person has a right to live, then why doesn’t he/she have a right to die by his/her own choice? If one doesn’t want to live, why create an unnecessary burden on society? The film answers all these debatable questions in the most delicate way and wins you over.

Aata Vel Zaali is a film which has a lot to say. The film is a philosophical lecture of 92 minutes which holds your attention from the very first frame till the end credits. There are many silent frames which speak many words. The film-making level is very high. The dialogues are very deep and intellectual.

The characterization is extremely powerful. The idea to create a story revolving around an old couple was a masterstroke. This is not a story of just one couple, but it’s a story of many old live couples out in our society who have to face many hardships in their old age. There are many children who don’t stay with their parents and often put them in old age homes. The film deals with each and every possible scenario which comes in the lives of old couples.

Dilip Prabhavalkar is a god gifted actor. We have already seen him in a Masterpiece film like Pimpal, which beautifully explored many themes. Dilip Sir will win your heart in each and every frame of the film. Rohini Hattangadi is a solid actor who never fails to impress. Rohini ma’am has delivered a performance of a lifetime. The duo of Dilip Prabhavalkar and Rohini Hattangadi has given couple goals to everyone. Each and everyone must need partners like these who will support each other through thick and thin no matter what the circumstances are, whatever their age is. The supporting actors have also done a wonderful job.

Ananth Narayan Mahadevan deserves a big salute for bringing this kind of cinema to life. His direction is top-notch. We will always be grateful to him for serving us with films like Mi Sindhutai Sapkal and Aata Vel Zaali.

I can go on and on praising this film, but as there is a limit of words, I will have to express my feelings in the shortest and the sweetest possible way.
