Nitin Desai was a popular Art Director. He committed suicide this morning and passed away.
As per the reports, Nitin hung himself to death at his own ND studio, located in Karjat. He opened his own art studio i.e. ND Studio in 2005. His studio had served films like Jodhaa Akbar, Traffic Signal and Colors reality show Bigg Boss
Nitin passed away at the age of 57. He was soon going to be 58 on 9th August.
A Maharashtra MLA Mahesh Baldi by confirming the death of Nitin Desai to media said, “He was under financial stress and this could be the only reason for suicide. We have found the body of art director Nitin Desai hanging in his studio in Karjat. Police were informed about this by a worker on the set. When police team reached the studio we saw his body hanging. We are investigating the case further for ascertaining all the aspects in this case.”
Nitin has served as an Art Director in many big films like Salaam Bombay, Parinda, 1942: A Love Story, Droh Kaal, Oh Darling! Yeh Hai India, Akele Hum Akele Tum, Khamoshi, Diljale, Maachis, Ishq, Keemat, Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Baadshah, Mela, Josh, Mission Kashmir, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Raju Chacha, One 2 Ka 4, Lagaan, Devdas, The Legend Of Bhagat Singh, Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Dostana, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, etc.
He has also served as a production designer in films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Lagaan, Mission Kashmir, Devdas, Khakee, Swades, Mangal Pandey, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Jodhaa Akbar, Fashion, Ishqiya, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Panipat, etc.
He has also produced the Marathi Masterpiece film Balgandharva (2011). Subodh Bhave and Ravi Jadhav’s Balgandharva is regarded as one of the finest biopics ever made in Indian Cinema.
He also created 2 sets for the Oscar winner film Slumdog Millionaire. The Kaun Banega Crorepati set in the film was created by him.
He has won the National Film Award for Best Art Direction four times which is the most by an Art Director. He won the award for films like Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Lagaan and Devdas.
He also won Filmfare Award for Best Art Direction three times for the films like 1942: A Love Story, Khamoshi and Devdas.
Nitin had worked in many big budget, memorable and successful films. He had such an impressive filmography. He had worked with all the big names (both actors and director) in the industry.
The tragic death of Nitin Desai has shocked the entire industry. The passing way of Nitin Desai is a huge loss to the whole entertainment industry.
