OMG was released in 2012 and became one of the most loved films of all time. OMG was a classic film which had a fabulous subject, powerful performances, great story and wonderful content. A decade later, the sequel titled OMG 2 has been released and it’s nowhere near OMG in terms of quality. Except for the name, OMG 2 has nothing to do with OMG and seems like makers have only used the brand name.

Oh My God had a subject and theme which referred to God. The film was about an atheist who sues God. OMG 2 deals with an extremely bold subject. The brand value of OMG gives a chance to OMG 2 for reaching a wider audience. If this would have been an independent film with another title, it would have been very tough for it to sustain. The brand value of OMG gives this film a chance to sustain a little.

OMG had an interesting debate which made everyone think about it and led to a thoughtful discussion. OMG 2 is based on a subject which looks good on-screen but in reality feels very awkward to talk about.

OMG 2 tells about Sex Education in a very bold way. The film deals with the topic of Masturbation in link to Sex Education. OMG 2 has gone to the highest level in terms of detailing about Masturbation.

There are many dialogues which will make you feel awkward, if you are watching the film with the opposite gender. The dialogues are a mixture of comics and reality.

The writing is loose in many parts. Even there seems to be a fault with the basic writing. The theme of sex education is explored well but the plot which has been built seems weak. It is like a dish which looks very good but when you taste it you are a bit disappointed.

Performance wise Pankaj Tripathi tops the chart. Pankaj Tripathi gets the maximum screen presence and he nails his part like a boss. Pankaj Tripathi does not make you feel the absence of Paresh Rawal even for a second. Akshay Kumar has hardly 20 minutes of screen presence and excels in his part. The makers have just used Akshay Kumar’s name and not utilized him properly. Fans would be disappointed to see such a short role of Akshay. Yami Gautam has portrayed the role role of lawyer before in Batti Gul Meter Chalu. She nails her part here in OMG 2. This was something brave, unique and risky idea of makers to cast a female lawyer opposite a male lawyer for the debate on sex education. The supporting cast is decent and does not get much to explore. This has to be the most boldest film in Akshay, Pankaj and Yami’s career.

The tuning and bonding which Akshay Kumar had with Paresh Rawal in OMG is definitely missing here with Pankaj Tripathi in OMG 2. Akshay Kumar is just there on-screen for namesake and nothing else. The character of Akshay Kumar makes very little sense here in OMG 2. It seems like he is not there in the film to help Pankaj Tripathi but is there to help makers to earn money by associating his name.

The theme which OMG explored in reference to God is nowhere seen here in OMG 2. Akshay who plays messenger of the God does not have any connection with the main subject (sex education) in the film.

The film has many scenes which will feel very awkward. The subject is very sensitive and salutes to the makers for this gutsy attempt. The film deals with the topic of Sex Education which should be discussed in society.

At one point it feels like the film is promoting sex instead of focusing on sex education. There are many scenes which will make you feel uncomfortable.

The biggest question that arises is, Is society ready for such a bold subject to be discussed openly?

No matter how much we speak about sex education, no parents will talk to their child about this subject openly and no child will discuss the same with their parents. There is an awkwardness between both child and parents.

In this internet era and smartphone era, children do search for all unwanted things and all this leads to unwanted acts.

The film speaks about the subject openly and tells about the most common thing among kids (Masturbation) in a loud and bold manner.

Sex and Masturbation are those things which are not taught anywhere. The film tells us that the picture about all these sensitive things should be clear among the children, so that they don’t have any kind of bad intention or bad thoughts running in their minds.

OMG 2 was said to be made for kids above the age of 12, but after watching the film it seems that the decision of giving this film an ‘A’ certificate was absolutely right.

Kids who are unaware of the terms like masturbation, intercourse, sex, etc. will learn about all these and will be curious to find more about these things. Bad things and bad manners don’t take much time to get adapted.

Parents who are watching this film will become extra cautious about their kids and will keep a heavy check on their activities

No matter what, the topic of Sex Education is extremely sensitive. No matter how hard you try, it’s too difficult for kids and parents to have a friendly and open discussion on it.

Overall, a huge salute to makers of OMG 2 for such a gutsy attempt. The main question which arises is, are we ready for an open discussion on such a topic. The film is very important and relevant, but at the same time it’s hard to digest this kind of concept.

OMG 2 is a film which is hard to recommend, but it is also important to witness the film for its universal and timeless message.

The film will be either accepted or rejected and won’t stand in between somewhere. It’s up to you, how do you interpret and conceive it. How will you look at it and what will be your thought process?

The film will surely create a discussion and conversation instead of controversy. The discussion on Sex Education is a must in today’s era. This is something which has never been attempted before in mainstream cinema.

A film that should be watched and dealt with extreme care. You won’t be able to take OMG 2 out of your mind and a thought process will start inside your mind for sure. OMG 2 explores the topic of Sex Education like never before in a much detailed manner. The makers have delivered the message in the most loud and clear manner. OMG 2 should be given a try for its path breaking theme.

Rating – 2.5/5* (it’s hard to rate the film and one’s rating totally depends upon how you interpret the subject)
