Neeyat marks the return of Vidya Balan to the big screen after 4 years. Vidya Balan’s last theatrical release was Mission Mangal (2019), which emerged as a super hit at the Box Office. After Mission Mangal, Vidya Balan appeared in 3 films which were directly premiered on the OTT platform. Neeyat should have skipped the theatrical route and should have opted for an OTT release, as the treatment given is of OTT level.
Vidya Balan collaborated with director Anu Menon for the 2nd time after Shakuntala Devi. Shakuntala Devi was a film based on an intelligent person without any intelligence. The duo have delivered back to back craps in the form of Shakuntala Devi and Neeyat.
Neeyat is an unbearable murder mystery which acts as a sleeping pill. A murder mystery thriller with zero thrills, no engaging moments, no cliffhangers, no suspense, nothing. It seemed like the Neeyat (intention) of makers was not to make a film, but to present a disaster show. This is a total letdown where makers have made a huge blunder and have created a total mess. The film is a motiveless murder mystery which doesn’t make any sense.
Neeyat fails in many departments like writing, screenplay, direction, characters, BGM, etc. A thriller should hold the attention of viewers with twists and turns, but Neeyat instead turns the attention of viewers from the screen because of the crap show.
When a mysterious murder takes place at exiled billionaire Ashish Kapoor’s (Ram Kapoor) birthday getaway, detective Mira Rao (Vidya Balan) must use all her skill to unravel devious motives as the suspects are Kapoor’s close family and friends.
Neeyat fails in the writing department with the basics and that’s where the whole film goes wrong. A thriller should have proper thrilling moments, but here there are only boring moments one after the other. The film seems to be dragged and is very repetitive.
Direction of Anu Menon is getting worse day by day. She seems to be completely lost and confused with Neeyat. The makers did not know how to take the story forward and in a hurry made this piece of shit. A thriller should have tense and chilling BGM in tense situations, but here the music acts as a spoilsport. Farebi song is somewhat decent and is misplaced. Neeyat doesn’t like a murder mystery thriller at all. Instead makers have murdered the basics of film-making and have made a mysterious film which no one will be able to crack logically.
You get bored by looking at the same frames again and again and all those dumb characters doing shit. 90% of the story is shown in a castle and it gives a pure feel of a boring television serial.
Ram Kapoor fell from the cliff in the film but makers didn’t care to add cliffhanger moments to attract and engage the audience.
Talking about performances, film had a huge ensemble cast of many talented actors but the writing made fun of their talent and wasted their potential. No matter how the film is, Vidya Balan never disappoints with her performance. Vidya Balan tries too hard to carry the film on her shoulder but faulty writing doesn’t give a chance to succeed. Vidya Balan’s character is so badly written and the writers should be bashed for wasting such a great actor’s potential. Vidya’s character starts on an intellectual note and in between is shown dumb and at the end it seems so confused and childish. Ram Kapoor, Rahul Bose, Shahana Goswami, Neeraj Kabi, Prajakta Koli, Amrita Puri, Dipannita Sharma, Shashank Arora, Niki Walia and Danesh Razvi are busy doing over acting in some scenes, behaving weird and are totally wasted due to this crap script. Ram Kapoor has been presented as Vijay Mallya both look wise and character wise.
The creativity seems to be lost in Bollywood, as makers have to unnecessarily and forcefully use an LGBTQ angle in every other film. Audiences are fed up with all these things and all this shit in the name of creativity makes the family audience uncomfortable.
It hurts to see a talented actress like Vidya Balan wasting her time and talent on such badly written scripts. We all are missing the vintage Vidya Balan and hope she makes her come back soon with a solid film. Vidya Balan had played the role of a detective in Bobby Jasoos, where her character was presented in a funny way. In Neeyat, Vidya is presented as dumb and foolish instead of showing her in an intense and serious avatar.
Neeyat is 2 hours and 12 minutes long, which seems like hours and hours. The editing team could have easily trimmed the boring portion, which would have given the audience a less headache. A thriller should be of less runtime and fast-paced, but many of them don’t understand this thing.
The story seems to be lost in its own and goes off track without making a proper connection. The climax is easily one of the worst, one will witness in any murder mystery. The film seems to be a ripoff of many Hollywood and Bollywood flicks which fails to make its own identity. One can find many resemblances with other films. Neeyat is a strong competitor to another Bollywood crap mystery thriller film Chehre.
Overall, Neeyat is a boring and dull show. Don’t know whether the Neeyat of makers was to make a mystery thriller or a big joke of themselves. A garbage made strictly for OTT platform, mistakenly dumped in cinemas. Watch this film with the intention (Neeyat) of getting a good sleep of 132 mins and you won’t be disappointed.
