Saiyami Kher plays the role of a paraplegic sports person, a cricketer who has lost her right hand in an accident.

Ghoomer is an emotional and inspiring story of a woman who stands tall against all the odds and plays for India.

We got a chance to do an exclusive interview with Saiyami Kher for Ghoomer.

Saiyami Kher in an exclusive interview with us said how she prepared for her role by observing other parathletes and her experience while working with R Balki.

Q] What observation did you do for your role in Ghoomer and how it felt while playing the character because we have 2 hands and now you will be doing everything with only 1 hand and how was your experience while working with R Balki?

Ans – I had a word with many para athletes across the nation. I had a discussion with Ekta Bhyan. Ekta Bhyan is a club and discus thrower for India. I learned a lot from Ekta. I asked her everything, her pre accident life, what happened during the accident, reaction of family members, how did she get into the sport, her competitiveness as an athlete. I had a long discussion with her which genuinely helped me a lot to make it as real as I could. They have lived this life. I also spoke with other parathletes. All these people are so competitive in nature because they are athletes and they don’t consider themselves as having anything less. So with regards to prep that was the biggest help from Ekta.

Working with Balki sir was very special. Even if it was for 2 hours, it would have been enough for me. I feel blessed to be working with bug directors like Anurag Kashyap sir, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra sir, Neeraj Pandey sir, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari ma’am. Balki sir is a very non filmy person. He has a very normal vibe and wants to wrap up the shoot  as early as possible because he wants to go home and watch cricket. He is very obsessed with cricket. It was fun working with him because when we had a break on the sets he was like Saiyami, please bowl and let me bat. During lunch break we used to finish our food fast and play. The set was so cricket obsessed. If we did not play we definitely would see the match. I am a mad cricket lover and with such a cricket obsessed set, it was a very good tuning on the set. He is a very intelligent and sharp director. If we want to do something and if we don’t explain him logically he will throw away the idea. But if you’re going with logic he will immediately agree and see come on let’s do it. He is a very responsive director and so much fun to work with. He is a very sensitive person. In film there are many scenes where I break down. I love listening to Hemant Kumar and Mohd. Rafi songs, when there is too much noise on the sets I used to listen to their songs. So he used to come to me and say everything is fine in your life, why are you always crying, how can you cry so much, why are you so sad, he used to be in tension and talk to me. He is just so much fun to work with.

Ghoomer is all set to release on 18th August. The film stars Abhishek Bachchan, Saiyami Kher and Angad Bedi in the lead roles. The film is directed by R Balki.
