Vikrant Massey and Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail is releasing this Friday.
The film is based on the struggle and life of IPS Officer Manoj Kumar Sharma.
The film gives insights about UPSC exams which is the toughest one to crack in India.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra had made an Iconic Film like 3 Idiots which was based on the education system. 3 Idiots is one of the finest films ever made in World Cinema. 12th Fail also has education as its backdrop.
We at Film Window got a chance to do an exclusive interview with Vikrant Massey for 12th Fail.
As 3 Idiots and 12th Fail both the films have Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s name associated with them, we asked Vikrant about the difference between these 2 films.
Q] Vidhu Vinod Chopra has made one of the most iconic films ‘3 Idiots’ in World Cinema which was based on education and ’12th Fail’ has a similar theme, so what would you like to say about this?
Ans – 3 Idiots is a very big film. I am lucky to feature in a film directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra who has made a film like 3 Idiots. Vidhu sir was a producer of 3 Idiots and Rajkumar Hirani sir was the director. Raju Hirani sir had only recommended my name to Vidhu sir for 12th Fail. I won’t compare both the films. That time was different and even that era was different. Both the films have different backgrounds. This is a story of people like us. This is a story of middle class people who have done a lot of struggle in life. In the trailer you might have seen the scene where one says that his parents were not able to educate him in a good school. They don’t have money in their pockets but they have 1 thing which no one else has and that is passion. This is our story. And with the help of this 1 character we have tried to tell the story of crores of people. The story is based on the structure of UPSC exams and how students struggle in clearing it. UPSC is the 2nd toughest exam in the world after China’s Gaokao exam. The students who appear for UPSC exams come from a challenged socio-economic sector. There are many students from English Medium also who consciously prepare for the UPSC exams. Majority of students, I would say 80-85% students are like me who come from socio-economic challenged sections. This story belongs to them. This story salutes their passion and spirit. This story bows down to their never give up attitude. This is a real-life story. This is based on a true story. This is Manoj Kumar Sharma Ji’s story.
12th Fail is all set to release on 27th October. The film is directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and stars Vikrant Massey in the lead role.
