In recent years, web series have become very popular in India. OTT platforms have also seen a great rise in these years. The content which OTT platforms have been serving over the years has received a great thumbs up from the audience.
There is the same tradition which every web series follows. We have seen that makers release all the episodes on the same given day.
Recently Disney+ Hotstar, which is one of the leading OTT platforms, decided to release their web shows, The Night Manager and Showtime in 2 different parts, with a span of 3 to 4 months.
Disney+ Hotstar’s recent thriller web show Gunaah followed a different route. Gunaah is a first of its kind web show, where the makers have decided to drop a new episode everyday in between Monday to Friday. As of now, a total of 25 episodes have been released on Disney+ Hotstar. This is a show which is available for complete free of cost.
We asked Gashmeer about the idea of dropping a new episode everyday and here’s what he said, “This format of dropping a new episode is not so popular, but I will tell you the benefit of this and I will also tell you that why we can’t call it as a daily soap. In daily soap, you have to shoot tomorrow’s episode today and there is a huge pressure on you. You have just written the script for the episode which will be telecasted tomorrow. The quality of content is lost, as you have to complete things quickly. You can write the first 30 to 40 episodes, but after that everything is written on the spot. As you try to rush things, the quality is affected. For Gunaah, the makers are only dropping episodes on a daily basis, but the whole shooting is already completed. We have already shot the whole show for 6 to 7 months just like a film or web series. Only the drop pattern has changed, instead of dropping all the episodes in one go we have decided to drop it on daily basis.”
Gunaah is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar for free. The show also stars Surbhi Jyoti and Zayn Ibad Khan in the lead roles.
