Dunki emerges as the second biggest opener for Rajkumar Hirani, negative WOM affects the potential biz

Rajkumar Hirani is India’s Best Director in recent times. Before Dunki, Rajkumar Hirani made 5 films and all of them turned out to be classics. 

Hirani is one of those rare directors who makes content oriented films in mainstream cinema by adding proper commercial elements. Hirani’s films have thought provoking social messages which touch the hearts of the audience. The characters and the story of Hirani’s films stay with the audience for a long time. 

Each and every promising director like Nitesh Tiwari, Amar Kaushik, Raaj Shaandilyaa, Raj Mehta and many others failed with their last films and did not deliver upto the mark. 

It was Hirani who set a different standard and has a legacy of its own. At the time of Dunki’s announcement, it seemed like Rajkumar Hirani was all set to deliver his 6th Classic in a row. The promos of Dunki were not upto the mark and still people had belief in Hirani that he doesn’t reveal much in his teasers and trailers. 

After the release of Dunki, it came as a shock that Hirani had failed for the first time. Dunki turned out to be a strictly average film and was not even half to what Hirani had made in the past. 

Dunki met with mixed to negative response from the audiences. The film was criticized for performances, direction, screenplay, length, writing and forced comedy.

If Dunki would have been a trademark Hirani classic, it had potential to open a 600 cr club for Bollywood. Dunki emerged as second highest opener for Hirani. 

Dunki would have emerged as the biggest opener for Hirani, but negative WOM came into the picture and affected its biz.

Dunki had managed to collect only 29.20 cr nett on its opening day. SRK has ruled the year 2023 like a king. He gave back to back 50 cr openers in the form of Pathaan and Jawan. 

Though the drama genre has a limited scope at the Box Office, with the associated names of SRK and Rajkumar Hirani, Dunki has underperformed on Day 1.
