As the films roll on, a beloved face has slipped away from our scenes. Achyut Potdar, the gentle professor whose line “Arey, kehna kya chahte ho?” captured our hearts in 3 Idiots, breathed his last on August 18, 2025, at Jupiter Hospital in Thane. He succumbed to the quiet toll of age-related health struggles, with his passing witnessed by those who cared most.

He stood at the threshold of life with a remarkable journey behind him. His days before the silver screen were spent donning the uniform of a captain in the Indian Army, shaping young minds as a professor in Rewa, and serving for years at Indian Oil. Only later did he step into acting, beginning a second chapter of profound creativity.

Potdar’s extraordinary acting voyage began at the age of 44, yet it blossomed into more than 125 films and nearly 100 television series across Hindi and Marathi media. He brought to life roles that resonated deeply, whether as the wise teacher, the caring elder, or the moral compass, making every character feel authentic and warm.

His gentle presence illuminated both cinema and television in beloved titles such as Tezaab, Rangeela, Vaastav, Parineeta, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Dabangg 2, Ventilator, and many more. In every performance, he quietly amplified the soul of humanity.

On television as well, he left countless meaningful imprints in shows like Bharat Ek Khoj, Wagle Ki Duniya, Pradhanmantri, and Majha Hoshil Na. Each character was portrayed with such ease that it felt like a trusted friend was speaking to you.

His death left the film fraternity and countless fans visibly shaken. Luminaries such as Hansal Mehta described it as a personal privilege to have shared the screen with him. Meanwhile, social media overflowed with grief and warm memories, especially of the professor so many will always cherish.

In the midst of sorrow, his final rites were carried out on August 19, 2025, in Thane. It was an emotional farewell to a compassionate soul who enriched every world he entered.
