Luv Ranjan has always made entertaining rom-coms which have always offered the public something refreshing. But here, in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar he has certainly gone one level down. We have seen in many films that ‘No Matter What Family Comes First’ and here also Luv has presented the same thing. After watching Pyaar Ka Punchnama series and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety expectations were high from Luv Ranjan but he disappoints here by delivering an average flick. The trailer also didn’t excite me much and was strictly average. This film of Luv Ranjan is slightly different from his 3 outings Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. Luv Ranjan often shows women as villains in his films and Akaash Vani being an exception as it was based on domestic violence. In Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar finally the misconception of woman being a villain in Luv Ranjan’s film comes to an end. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar deals with modern relationships along with family values added to it. Finally, a Luv Ranjan film with a happy ending. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar doesn’t offer the audience anything new and has the same repetitive old stuff. The story is very much predictable. While watching the film, the biggest loop you will notice is that Ranbir and Shraddha can’t identify each other’s voice on phone despite being in a relationship. This is one of the biggest loopholes and writing seems to be very illogical here. There are many such small loopholes in the film. But if you don’t care much about those loopholes then you will somewhat enjoy the film. As this film is not meant for critics, a normal audience can find this one entertaining and enjoy the film without using much brain and finding logic.
Mickey (Ranbir Kapoor) often does breakups of people who are in a relationship and charges them a certain amount for causing the breakup. He is a young guy who belongs to a rich family. While he has gone for vacation, he falls for a young girl named Tinni (Shraddha Kapoor) who belongs to a CA family. Their love story starts on a timepass note but soon they fall in love. Their marriage is fixed and later what complications do they face in their relationship, how they deal with their family, heartbreaks, etc. is what Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar all about.
Ranbir Kapoor fans will love his avatar in the film. Ranbir nails the role of a modern flirty guy. Female fans can go gaga for Ranbir as he goes shirtless, carries swag wearing suits and glasses and looks very handsome in the whole film. Talking about performance, Ranbir goes over the top in many scenes and does overacting. Shraddha looks gorgeous in the whole film and male fans will go gaga over her killer looks. Shraddha does too much of overacting in many scenes. As this film is not meant for acting, audiences can enjoy the chemistry between the fresh pair of Ranbir and Shraddha. Supporting cast which includes Dimple Kapadia, Anubhav Singh Bassi, Monica Chaudhary and Hasleen Kaur is decent. Boney Kapoor makes his acting debut with this film and he is totally wasted and remains unnoticed. Fans of Kartik Aaryan and Nushrratt Bharuccha are in for a treat. Cameo of Kartik Aaryan is hilarious.
Talking about music, it’s not that great as we have in a Ranbir Kapoor film. Tere Pyaar Mein is the best song from the album. Pyaar Hota Kayi Baar Hai is all about Ranbir’s dance moves. Maine Pee Rakhi Hai is all about Shraddha’s dance moves. O Bedardeya is a sad and heartbreaking track. Show Me The Thumka is only watchable for its choreography. Writing has many faults and even direction of Luv Ranjan isn’t upto the mark, one would have expected better from Luv Ranjan. Recently in Bollywood many directors who have delivered good films in the past have delivered disappointing products. The list includes Amar Kaushik, Raj Mehta, Anubhav Sinha, Hansal Mehta, etc. and now Luv Ranjan joins that list. Akaash Vani remains the worst film of Luv Ranjan as it was a boring affair and too slow. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is not crap, but definitely not upto the standard of Luv Ranjan. The film is 165 mins long and the long runtime hurts the narrative. Some editing would have made this one crispier and better.
That one biggest loophole can’t be overlooked as it carries the story forward and that’s what the story is based on. It totally lacks logic and the basics of writing went wrong. Some concrete logic or any small clearance scene about that loop would have made the film look better. The airport scene in the climax looks very much outdated, kiddish and cheap but is lifted up with some funny dialogues. Luv Ranjan creates Mass Laughter with many scenes. Some good scenes don’t prove much because everything depends on the whole narrative. Some dialogues are really very funny and hilarious. There are some short monologues, but that punch of Pyaar Ka Punchnama is surely missing here.
Overall, an average flick which can be watched for the on-screen chemistry between Ranbir and Shraddha. Keep your expectations low in order to enjoy this one, else keeping high hopes would hurt your expectations. After Sanju, Ranbir is yet to deliver a good film, his last 2 films Brahmastra (average) and Shamshera (crap) were also disappointing. Nowadays we don’t get good rom-coms like we used to get in the past, so be happy with what we have. One can wait for this film to release on OTT as it doesn’t offer anything for cinema viewing except for fans.
