Saiyaara director Mohit Suri is soaking in the love as his latest film strikes a chord with audiences, but it’s the heartfelt support from Alia Bhatt and Shraddha Kapoor that truly warms him. In a recent chat with IANS and Zoom, Suri opened up about the personal moments and relationships that continue to shape his journey.
He playfully revealed that Alia and Shraddha have always been a little “biased” when it comes to him. Both of them have been supporting Saiyaara since the teaser dropped, he said with a smile. They’re close to me, yes, but what matters most is that the audience is connecting with the film just as deeply.
Suri also shared a nostalgic memory from years ago when Alia was still a child. I remember taking the video of my first film song, Woh Lamhe Woh Baatein, with Bhatt saab. He didn’t react much, but Alia immediately said, ‘Papa, this is cool!’ Even back then, he added, she had an instinct for what would work. She may not have been in films yet, but she already had that commercial spark.
Reflecting on his journey, Mohit talked about how much time he’s spent behind the camera. “I’ve been on sets since I was 17. I worked as an assistant director for five years and started directing at 22. Now I’m 44, and honestly, I think this has always been the real me.”
In the end, his story isn’t just about box office success, it’s about long-standing friendships, intuition, and growing through every frame. And if a bit of bias from old friends helps light the way, he’s all the more grateful for it.
