Famous filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya, known for hit family films like Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Hum Saath Saath Hain, and Vivah, recently spoke about the privilege he had when entering Bollywood. In an honest interview, he shared that he, Aditya Chopra, and Karan Johar were all born into film families and didn’t have to struggle like many others.
Barjatya admitted, “We were born with golden spoons. We didn’t face real life problems. We always travelled in comfort. When our time came, we followed our passion and made movies. We showed dream-like worlds in our films, and people enjoyed that in the 90s. So we succeeded.”
He also compared himself to Chopra and Johar, saying that while they told bold and modern stories, like those in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Dhoom, or Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, he always made simple, traditional films focused on Indian values and families. Barjatya said, “Out of the three of us, I’m the most traditional. That’s because of my upbringing, and I think it has helped me.”
Barjatya is now getting ready to return to television with a new show called Manpasand Ki Shaadi. It will be about love, arranged marriages, and family relationships. The show, made by Rajshri Productions, will start on Colors TV from August 11.
This rare and honest confession from Sooraj Barjatya gives a clear picture of how some filmmakers in Bollywood have easier starts due to family connections. But it also shows how they used their opportunities to create stories that touched audiences in different ways. Barjatya’s simple storytelling style continues to win hearts, and fans are now excited to see his return to TV with another emotional and relatable story.
