Shah Rukh Khan’s first-ever National Film Award for Best Actor has finally arrived, bringing with it overwhelming emotions and a renewed sense of purpose.

Jawan, directed by Atlee, earned SRK a highly respected honour at the 71st National Film Awards, which he shared with Vikrant Massey for his performance in 12th Fail. Despite a remarkable journey spanning over 33 years, this marks the very first National Award for both actors.

Following the announcement, Shah Rukh posted a heartfelt Instagram reel to thank everyone who has stood by him throughout his career. He opened with words of “gratitude, pride, namaskar, and adab,” admitting he felt “overwhelmed with humility.” He made it clear that this National Award isn’t an endpoint but a reminder of cinema’s responsibility to reflect truth and tell stories that resonate deeply with people.

“The National Award is not just about achievement; it’s a reminder that what I do matters. It tells me to keep going, keep working hard, keep creating, and keep serving cinema.”

He extended his thanks to the jury, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, his collaborators, and especially director Atlee, who entrusted him with a challenging double role in Jawan. SRK also acknowledged his wife and children, who support his intense filmmaking schedule with love and patience, treating him “like the kid in the house.”

Fans flooded social media with emotional messages, calling the win long overdue. For those who grew up watching Shah Rukh Khan in the 1990s, it was a deeply personal moment. Celebrities like Kajol also joined the celebration, cheering for SRK as well as fellow awardees Rani Mukerji and Karan Johar.

In a playful yet touching finale, he told fans to “keep your popcorn ready” for what’s next, a cheeky hint at the exciting projects ahead. He also thanked his fans for their cheers, tears, and for always being by his side.

For Shah Rukh, this award is more than recognition. It’s a reminder of why he tells stories: to connect, to inspire, and to speak the truth. And in his own words, this isn’t the end. It’s just the beginning.
