Divya Khosla Kumar is back into acting mode with the latest jailbreak thriller titled ‘Savi: A Bloody Housewife’. Savi is bloody that bad, that you feel like this housewife is strictly meant for household work, utensils and kitchen. This film is a big joke in the name of a jailbreak thriller. Struggling to be savage, but only succeeding in being cringeworthy, is Savi all about.
Savi tells the story of a simple housewife Savi (Divya Khosla Kumar) who becomes bloody in an attempt to jailbreak her husband Satya (Harshvardhan Rane) from a high-security prison in England.
I don’t know what has inspired Divya to act in movies. Divya is back with another pathetic act after Yaariyan 2. Watching Divya’s performance is no less than a torture which one suffers in a jail. The viewers will try to break this jail and will badly wait for the torture to end quickly. Harshvardhan Rane is decent in his role, but doesn’t get much to explore. Anil Kapoor is the only saving grace in the acting department. Thanks to Anil Kapoor’s screen presence which brings some life to the dead story. Each and every time Anil Kapoor is on-screen, he is a great sigh of relief for the audience who are suffering from the torture. Anil Kapoor is seen in many looks in the film and excels in each one of them.
The film is a remake of French film ‘Anything For Her’ which was later remade in Hollywood as ‘The Next Three Days’. The only change made in Savi is the character. In those 2 films, the husband attempts a jailbreak to save his wife and in Savi, the wife attempts a jailbreak to save his husband. The gender of the central character is swapped just like we saw in ‘Badla’ which was inspired from Spanish film ‘The Invisible Guest’.
Savi is a completely messed up script which irritates the viewers with its stupid twists and turns and pointless suspense. The film also has left many questions unanswered, which were not needed. Instead of being a smart and savage thriller, the makers have made a huge joke of themselves by not even getting the basics right.
The film was a flop itself on paper. A wife does not even try to prove his husband innocent, but rather attempts an impossible jailbreak. Even if she is attempting a jailbreak, it should be pre-planned and the husband should get to know about it. Everything happens on the spot and things get done out of nowhere. A lady trusts a complete stranger (who is an escaped prisoner) and both of them pull off an impossible task in the blink of an eye. There are many loopholes in this film, and I can write a separate article on it.
Savi is given a modern treatment but has the same old outdated stuff. The locations and framework are just irritating, even though it is shot in a foreign country.
The screenplay lacks thrilling moments and only adds confusion (which makers think that they have a smart screenplay, but it is full of cringe moments). There are many loose ends, which should be covered but are left incomplete. The screenplay is completely motiveless without having any proper plans. Nothing looks satisfying in this lackluster script.
We have seen such great jailbreak films like The Shawshank Redemption, Stalag 17, Le Trou (The Hole) and The Great Escape in World Cinema. Savi has made a huge joke in the name of jailbreak and can be easily labeled as one of the worst jailbreak films ever made.
Instead of watching Savi, one can revisit the above mentioned jailbreak films to cherish that experience for the lifetime. Deewaar (2004), which was a strictly average film, looks like Sholay in front of this shit.
Savi revealing her full name Savitri in the end (sorry for the spoiler), is a huge insult to the mythological character of Savitri. Savitri saved her husband Satyavan from the God of death, but in Savi no one is there to save you from this torture.
Watching Savi is like committing a crime and the theater or mobile is like a jail where you will have to end up. Once you have committed the crime and entered the jail, then there is no one to save you from it and you will be forced to attempt a jailbreak (leave the film in the middle), so choice is yours, whether you want to commit the crime or not. This is a housewife which is strictly meant for household work and nothing more than that. Bloody skip it.
