Salman Khan’s much-awaited war drama Maatrubhumi continues to face uncertainty over its theatrical release. The film has reportedly not received relief from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Recent reports suggested that the makers could receive clearance soon. However, the latest update indicates that the certification process is still unresolved. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, discussions regarding the film’s certification are continuing.
Maatrubhumi has already undergone several changes since its original announcement. The project was initially announced under the title Battle of Galwan. The film is inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops. Salman Khan plays Colonel B. Santosh Babu in the film. Colonel Santosh Babu commanded the 16 Bihar Regiment during the Galwan confrontation.
The film is directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced with Salman Khan’s involvement. Chitrangda Singh plays the female lead opposite Salman Khan. The cast also includes Abhilash Chaudhary and Ankur Bhatia in important roles. Himesh Reshammiya has reportedly composed the music for the project.
The teaser was released on December 27, 2025, coinciding with Salman Khan’s birthday. The film was initially scheduled for theatrical release on April 17, 2026. However, the planned release was subsequently postponed because of certification-related complications.
The makers later changed the title from Battle of Galwan to Maatrubhumi. Several changes were reportedly made to address concerns surrounding the film. Bollywood Hungama previously reported that around 40 percent of the film was reshot. The reshoots reportedly added more backstory and romantic elements to the narrative.
The film’s references to China have also reportedly remained an important issue. Bollywood Hungama earlier reported that the revised version avoided directly mentioning China. Despite these changes, the certification process has apparently not reached a final resolution.
There have also been reports about the possibility of the film moving to 2027. Bollywood Hungama previously reported that Maatrubhumi could shift to next year. This possibility could depend on how quickly the makers resolve the CBFC concerns.
A direct-to-OTT release does not appear to be the preferred route for the project. Bollywood Hungama reported that Salman Khan remains determined to release Maatrubhumi theatrically. The actor reportedly wants audiences to experience the film on the big screen.
For Salman Khan, Maatrubhumi is an important project because of its patriotic war-drama subject. The Galwan conflict also gives the film considerable contemporary relevance. However, the certification delay has made its release timeline increasingly uncertain.
At present, the makers are reportedly continuing discussions with the authorities. An official announcement regarding the final release date is still awaited. Until then, Salman Khan fans will have to wait for clarity on Maatrubhumi.
