Rohit Shetty turns 49 Today. When we talk about the word mass, the name which comes to our mind is of Rohit Shetty’s. Rohit Shetty has established himself as a brand, by whose name people go to the theaters. He has proved himself to be a bankable director over the years. Rohit Shetty started the idea of universe based films. His cop universe is very successful. His cop universe includes Singham (Ajay Devgn), Simmba (Ranveer Singh) and Sooryavanshi (Akshay Kumar). Idea of a cop universe led YRF to create a universe of its own, YRF’s Spy Universe includes Tiger (Salman Khan), Kabir (Hrithik Roshan) and Pathaan (Shah Rukh Khan). Rohit Shetty is currently one of the Biggest Mass Directors of our country.
Rohit Shetty started his career in movies when he was 17. He worked as an assistant director in Ajay Devgn’s Debut film Phool aur Kaante which released in 1991. In 1994, he worked as body double in Suhaag which starred Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar in it and was directed by his mentor Kuku Kohli. He worked as a body double and stunt artist for Akshay in the film. He has also worked as an AD in films like Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, Zulmi, Hindustan Ki Kasam and Raju Chacha.
Rohit directed his 1st film Zameen in 2003. Zameen had Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan and Bipasha Basu in lead roles. Rohit Shetty directed Golmaal in 2006, which is his career best film till date. Rohit became very popular after the release of Golmaal. Golmaal was both critically and commercially successful. In 2008, he directed Sunday and Golmaal Returns. Sunday was a flop at the Box Office while Golmaal Returns emerged as a Hit at the Box Office. In 2009, he had directed All The Best which did a decent business at the Box Office. In 2010, Rohit Shetty delivered his 1st Blockbuster Golmaal 3 which went on to collect 100 crores nett at the Domestic Box Office. In 2011 he directed Singham which went on to become a rage in the nation. Bajirao Singham is one of the most iconic characters of Ajay Devgn. In 2012, Bol Bachchan came and got a Hit tag. In 2013, Rohit delivered his biggest Blockbuster Chennai Express. Shah Rukh Khan and Rohit Shetty both got their 1st All Time Grosser with Chennai Express. In 2014, Singham Returns was released and was a Super Hit at the Box Office. In 2015, Dilwale came and faced a clash with Sanjay Leela Bhansali Directorial Bajirao Mastani. Though it had a clash at the Box Office, Dilwale was a success. In 2017 and 2018 Rohit delivered back to back Blockbusters Golmaal Again and Simmba. In 2021, Sooryavanshi released which was the 1st Big Film to come in cinemas after the COVID-19 Pandemic and was a Hit at the Box Office. Rohit Shetty’s last directorial Cirkus which was released in 2022, bombed at the box office.
Rohit Shetty’s next directorial is Singham Again and we can’t wait to see the Blockbuster Duo of Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty creating magic once again. Rohit Shetty is currently directing Indian Police Force, an action web series for Amazon Prime which stars Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty and Vivek Oberoi.
