Vijay Sethupathi is also seen in a short role in this film. This film was directed by Selvaraghavan (brother of Dhanush) and remains his best film till date. Pudhupettai has been a benchmark film in the world of gangster films. This film showed Dhanush’s range as an actor. Dhanush pulled off the role of gangster with such an ease. 3] Aadukalam (2011)
This was the first classic from the duo of Vetrimaaran and Dhanush. In a village in South India, rearing roosters, maintaining them and using them for fights are a way of life and a matter of honor and lifeline to many people. When one of the aide of the rooster owner does not follow instructions of the owner it creates enmity between the two. Taapsee Pannu was the leading lady of this film. This is Taapsee’s career best film. Dhanush was seen in a different avatar in the film and it was a treat for movie lovers. The film can be enjoyed by both masses and classes. Aadukalam won Dhanush his 1st National Award for Best Actor.
4] Vada Chennai (2018)
The film tells the story of a skilled carrom player who becomes a reluctant participant in a gang war between two rival gangsters. Dhanush as a gangster is always a treat to watch. This was the 2nd classic from the magical combo of Vetrimaaran and Dhanush. The film is a planned trilogy and the 2nd part is in development. The film follows a non-linear narrative and makes a great watch for class and mass lovers. Dhanush has not just played the character but he has lived it.
5] Asuran (2019)
Dhanush and Vetrimaaran have always created the magic whenever they have worked together and Asuran is another fine example of their work. The plot follows A farmer going on the run with his family as he is compelled to protect his son, who has murdered a wealthy upper-caste landlord in a fit of vengeance. Dhanush was so natural in the film. The film can be enjoyed by classes and masses as well. The film also gives a speech about the importance of education in the end. Dhanush won his 2nd National Award for Best Actor with Asuran.
6] Thiruchitrambalam (2022)
Thiruchitrambalam is a rom-com which tells the story about 3 different generations in a very beautiful way. Dhanush plays the role of a delivery boy. The film shows wonderful chemistry between Dhanush and Nithya Menen. It was one of the highest grossing films of 2022. Dhanush steps out of serious roles and delivers a very fine performance.
