Part one of Brahmāstra had a huge buzz before the release. It was one of the most awaited and anticipated Bollywood releases of all time. The idea about Brahmāstra came in Ayan’s mind in 2011. In 2014, development started and it was initially going to be released in 2016. The film was delayed for years and was finally released on 9th September, 2022.
Brahmāstra was 1 of the clean hits out 5 in Bollywood, released in 2022. The film went on to collect 418.80 cr gross worldwide. Below is the breakup of Domestic and Overseas collection:
India (Nett) – 257.44 cr.
India (Gross) – 306.48 cr.
Overseas (Gross) – 112.32 cr.
Worldwide (Gross) – 418.8 cr
The film was made on a huge budget of 250 crores. The film was high on VFX and visual effects which were never seen before in Bollywood. This fantasy action adventure film was never attempted before in Bollywood.
The first part was written and directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Dharma Productions, Starlight Pictures, Prime Focus, Star Studios and Ranbir Kapoor.
The film had an ensemble cast of Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, Nagarjuna, Shah Rukh Khan and Dimple Kapadia.
The first part was titled Shiva and the sequels will be taking the story forward by revealing who Dev is and will tell the backstory about Dev and Amrita.
Ayan on his Instagram handle announced Brahmāstra Part Two: Dev and Brahmāstra Part 3. Brahmāstra Part 2 will be released in December 2026 and Part 3 will be released in December 2027.
While announcing these films Ayan wrote, “Hi 🙂 The time has come – for some updates on the Brahmastra trilogy, the Astraverse, and my life! After absorbing all the love and the feedback on part 1… I have been focused on creating the vision for part two and part three – which I know will be bigger and more ambitious than part 1! I have learnt that we need a little more time to perfect the script of Brahmastra two and three! And… I have decided that we are going to make the two films… together! Allowing them to release closer together! I have a timeline in place to achieve this, which I am sharing with you all today! I have another piece of news to share…The universe presented me with a very special opportunity recently – a very special movie – to step into and direct. What the movie is… more on that when the time is right 🙂 An opportunity that challenges me and terribly excites me… one where I will learn, be inspired and where I will grow! So, I have decided to take it up!! Opening myself up to all the positive energies in this universe so I can do my best and contribute to that one thing that matters most to me – Indian Cinema!
