Bollywood’s versatile actor Avinash Tiwary has officially joined the cast of director Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming action-packed thriller, Romeo, starring opposite Shahid Kapoor. What makes this announcement even more exciting is that Avinash will be reuniting with Triptii Dimri, the moment they last shared the screen was in the emotionally intense love story Laila Majnu, a film that gradually won hearts and evolved into a beloved cult gem.
Laila Majnu, released in 2018, introduced Avinash Tiwary as the tragic Qais and Triptii Dimri as the free-spirited Laila, a pairing that radiates raw chemistry and emotional truth. Though the film initially had a modest theatrical run, its digital release brought it widespread acclaim, and today it’s regarded for its poignant storytelling and haunting performances.
Director Sajid Ali, who helmed Laila Majnu, once praised their on-screen connection, saying they delivered something “beautiful and tragic.” He highlighted their ease with vulnerability and authenticity, a synergy built on surrendering to their characters, not forced romantic theatrics.
This isn’t the first time Triptii Dimri and Vishal Bhardwaj have been linked. The Romeo project marks yet another high-profile collaboration, Bhardwaj and Shahid Kapoor have previously teamed up for acclaimed films like Kaminey, Haider, and Rangoon.
Now titled Romeo (after initial reports referred to it as Arjun Ustara), the film is shaping up to be a gripping action thriller blending dark romance with gritty crime elements.
Scheduled for release on December 5, 2025, the movie features an impressive ensemble, Triptii Dimri will star alongside veterans such as Nana Patekar, Randeep Hooda, Vikrant Massey, and Farida Jalal.
Director Vishal Bhardwaj has described the film as his most “accessible and relatable” yet, stepping away from his signature ‘dark and broody’ films, and Shahid Kapoor calls working with him on this project a privilege. Adding to the cast, Tamannaah Bhatia has joined Romeo in a pivotal role, enhancing the intrigue around this cinematic event.
This marks a highly anticipated reunion between Avinash and Triptii, whose chemistry in Laila Majnu remains etched in audiences’ hearts. Their previous film’s journey, from a commercial underdog to a beloved classicz adds emotional weight to their collaboration once more.
Romeo also continues the legacy of Shahid-Bhardwaj storytelling, the stakes, the depth, and the world-building all suggest something special.
