Raj Kapoor

Raj Kapoor has directed a total of 10 films in his career. He was one of the finest directors in Bollywood at that time who has mastered the art of direction by delivering memorable romantic and socially driven films. Raj Kapoor started his journey as a director in 1948 with the film Aag. Raj Kapoor and Nargis collaborated for the 1st time in this film. The film did average business at the box office.

Raj Kapoor’s 2nd directorial film was Barsaat in 1949. This film was a huge success at the Box Office. Barsaat turned out to be an All Time Grosser in Bollywood. The success of Barsaat helped Raj Kapoor to buy RK Studios in 1950.

Raj Kapoor’s 3rd directorial Awara was also an All Time Grosser in Bollywood. Awara was a landmark film in Indian Cinema. It also did humongous business in Overseas. It is regarded as an iconic film in Bollywood. 

In 1955, Raj Kapoor came up with Shree 420. With Shree 420 Raj Kapoor scored a hattrick of All Time Grossers. It had a chartbuster album. The film is regarded as a Classic.

In 1964, Raj Kapoor directed Sangam. This was the 1st directorial film of Raj Kapoor which did not feature Nargis. Sangam was the highest grossing film of the year and 2nd highest grossing Bollywood film of all time (behind Mughal-E-Azam). Sangam was the 1st Bollywood film which was shot in Foreign. It was the longest film at the time of its release with a runtime of 238 minutes. It was the 1st Bollywood film to have 2 intervals.

In 1970, Raj Kapoor directed Mera Naam Joker. Mera Naam Joker flopped at the Box Office but is now regarded as a Classic. It was the lengthiest film at that time with a runtime of 248 minutes and had 2 intervals. 

After the debacle of Mera Naam Joker at the Box Office, Raj Kapoor went on to direct films like Bobby (1973), Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978), Prem Rog (1982) and Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985). All these films were huge hits at the Box Office. Raj Kapoor did not act in any of these films.

Feroz Khan 

Feroz Khan made his directorial debut in 1972 with the film Apradh. The film had Mumtaz playing the role of the leading lady. 

His 2nd film as a director, Dharmatma came in 1975. Dharmatma. This film was a hit at the box office. The film was loosely based on the film The Godfather. The film is known for its music, performances, story and direction. 

In 1980, Feroz Khan directed Qurbani which was a huge blockbuster at the Box Office. The film had a chartbuster music. The film also had Vinod Khanna and Zeenat Aman in the lead roles. 

In 1986, Feroz Khan directed Jaanbaaz which starred Anil Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia. Jaanbaaz had a chartbuster music and was declared a hit at the Box Office. 

In 1988, Feroz Khan made Dayavan which was the remake of Tamil Classic Nayakan. The film had Vinod Khanna and Madhuri Dixit in the lead roles alongside Feroz Khan. This film also had superhit music. The film was praised for it’s music, performances and direction. It was a huge Hit at the Box Office. 

In 1992, Feroz Khan directed the film Yalgaar which had Sanjay Dutt and Manisha Koirala in the lead roles. The film was not a huge hit like other directorial flicks of Feroz Khan.

Feroz Khan launched his son Fardeen Khan in 1998 with his directorial film Prem Aggan. The romantic flick flopped at the Box Office India. This was the only directorial film of Feroz Khan where the actor did not act in the film.

Feroz Khan’s last directorial film, Janasheen, which had Fardeen Khan and Celina Jaitly in the lead roles, released in 2003. The film was a flop at the Box Office.

Kamal Haasan 

The Mega Legend Kamal Haasan directed his 1st film in Bollywood. His 1st film was Chachi 420 which was a remake of Tamil film Avvai Shanmughi. Chachi 420 was a critical and commercial success and Kamal Haasan’s performance was highly appreciated. The film was declared a Hit at the Box Office.

Kamal Haasan directed his 2nd film Hey Ram in 2000. The film was simultaneously shot in Hindi as well as Tamil. The film also had Shah Rukh Khan in a brief cameo. The film had a controversial subject and was a flop at the Box Office. The film is regarded as a Classic.

In 2013, Kamal Haasan directed Vishwaroop. The film was shot simultaneously in Hindi as well as Tamil (Vishwaroopam). The film was a flop at the Hindi Box Office but did well at the Tamil Box Office.

In 2018, Kamal Haasan directed the sequel to his film Vishwaroop. This film was also shot in Tamil (Vishwaroopam) as well as Hindi. It did not work at either of the Box Office. 

Kamal Haasan has also directed a Tamil Film called Virumaandi which was released  in 2004. Virumaandi is a Classic Film.

Farhan Akhtar 

Farhan Akhtar started his career in Bollywood as a director. His 1st film as a director was Dil Chahta Hai which came out in 2001. Dil Chahta Hai is one of the Finest Films ever made in Indian Cinema. This Aamir Khan starrer was a success at the Box Office. This film was a trendsetter in Bollywood. The film’s music album was a chartbuster. 

His 2nd film Lakshya came in 2004. This film has Hrithik Roshan, Amitabh Bachchan and Preity Zinta in the lead roles. This film was a flop at the Box Office. It is regarded as a Classic Film. 

Farhan’s 3rd directorial was Shah Rukh Khan starrer Don. Don was a reboot version of Amitabh Bachchan’s Don (1978). Don was a Hit at the Box Office. The film’s screenplay was modernized. 

After the success of Don, Farhan Akhtar decided to make a sequel to Don. Don 2 was released in 2011 and proved to be a Hit at the Box Office. It was the 2nd highest grossing film of the year worldwide. 

Farhan Akhtar has announced his 5th film as a director titled Jee Le Zaraa. Jee Le Zara stars Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles.

Rishi Kapoor

Rishi Kapoor has only directed 1 film in his career, Aa Ab Laut Chalen. The film had Akshaye Khanna and Aishwarya Rai in the lead roles. It was the last film produced by RK Films. The film did not perform well at the Box Office.

Ajay Devgn’s 4th directorial film Bholaa is all set to release this week. Ajay Devgn’s last directorial film Runway 34 was released in 2022 and was a disaster at the Box Office. Ajay Devgn has never tasted success at the Box Office as a director. With Bholaa, it seems that Ajay Devgn has a winner and will finally get his first successful film at the Box Office.
