Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi starrer Selfiee released on 24th Feb and it opened on a disastrous note. Day 1 collections were a shocker to the industry. The opening day collections of Selfiee were 2.55 cr. And the film did not show much growth yesterday i.e. on 2nd Day.
Akshay Kumar’s last hit was Rohit Shetty directorial Sooryavanshi which was released back in 2021. After Sooryavanshi, Akshay had 4 theatrical releases and Selfiee being the 5th film. Akshay has not delivered a single hit film after Sooryavanshi. After Sooryavanshi, his theatrical releases were Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu and Selfiee.

Bachchhan Paandey – Disaster
Samrat Prithviraj – Disaster Raksha Bandhan – Disaster
Ram Setu – Flop
Selfiee – All set to be Disaster
Akshay also had 2 OTT releases after Sooryavanshi, Atrangi Re and Cuttputlli. And if these 2 also had theatrical releases it would have not worked at Box Office.
In an interview with Aaj Tak after Selfiee not working at Box Office and delivering back to back flops, Akshay Kumar said, “This is not happening with me for the first time. In my career, I have had 16 consecutive flops at a time. There was a time when I had eight films in a row that did not work. Now, I have had three-four films in a row that did not work. The thing is that it happens due to your own fault, film ka na chalna. The audience has changed, you need to change, you need to dismantle yourself. You have to start again because the audience requires you to see something else.”
He further added, “It is a great alarm, aapki film nahi chal rahi to galti aapki hai. When your films flop in a row, it is an alarm for you that it is time for you to change. Main koshish kar raha hun, wahi kar sakta hoon.”
He said that the audiences shouldn’t be blamed and said, “Do not blame the audience or anyone else. It is my fault, 100%. Aapki film na chalna is not because of the audience. It is because of what you selected. Maybe you have not given the right ingredients in the film.”
