Recently released film The Kerala Story has been in headlines ever since the trailer of the film was released. Many people said that it’s a propaganda film and will only spread hatred and nothing else. Those who were opposing said that this film will create riots and will make people fight against each other in the name of religion. The Kerala Story has been going strong at the Box Office because of its strong Word of Mouth, controversial topic and bold subject. The film is all set to emerge as a Blockbuster at the Box Office.
Theater owners across Tamil Nadu were unofficially told not to play the film in the theaters. Recently, only 13 theaters are screening the film in the state. Today, Mamata Banerjee (CM of West Bengal) had ordered to ban the film in the whole state of West Bengal. The Kerala State Government had also bashed the makers.
Couple of days ago, Hon. PM Narendra Modi had referred to the film and supported the film. The film was made tax free in Madhya Pradesh and even it can be made tax free in Uttar Pradesh if there is a proposal.
This evening a press conference was held by makers of The Kerala Story in Mumbai. The producer, Vipul Amrutlal Shah and the director Sudipto Sen were seen addressing the media for the same.
While reacting to the ban of the film in Tamil Nadu, Vipul Amrutlal Shah said, “I just want to request the government to make sure that the film is released since the Honorable Court has already given the order. After that, it becomes the state’s responsibility to ensure a smooth and fair release of the film. Let people decide if they don’t want to see it. But this is a completely unacceptable situation. Our film is made upon a very serious social issue and it can cause a political uproar. Some are caused by a planned strategy too. Everyone has the right to dissent. People have gone to the courts. We have about 15 cases filed against us. They have their democratic rights to do so. But, once our courts have ordered that the film be released, to not release it is something that the state must understand if it is in the interest of democracy or not.”
Sudipto Sen also commented on the same and said, “There is no official statement from the Tamil Nadu govt. It was unofficially told to the multiplex owners that the film will not be played here and money will be refunded. So our appeal to the government is either they say we will not let the film run here in Tamil Nadu or say we will ensure the normal screening of the film because it is ours right now. It is the right of the common people of Tamil Nadu to watch the film.”
On reacting to Mamata Banerjee urging to ban the film in West Bengal, Vipul Amrutlal Shah said, “If that is what she has done, we will take legal action. Whatever is possible under the provisions of law, we will fight.”
The Kerala Story is directed by Sudipto Sen. The film is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The film stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani and Siddhi Idnani in the lead roles.
