Filmmaker Jeethu Joseph, the mastermind behind the acclaimed Drishyam franchise, has openly addressed ongoing concerns regarding the timeline for the highly anticipated Drishyam 3. In a recent interview, Jeethu made it clear that the Malayalam version starring Mohanlal will be the first to go on floors, and any attempt by the Hindi remake team to begin production before that would result in legal action. His statement comes amid speculation that the Ajay Devgn-led Hindi version was initially being prepped to start before the original.
Jeethu shared that there were conversations within the Hindi team about potentially starting their shoot ahead of the Malayalam film. However, he firmly intervened and issued a warning to the makers, making it explicitly clear that such a move would not be tolerated. He reminded them that since the Malayalam version is the original, it holds narrative and creative precedence. Following his strong stance, the Hindi team backed off from their plans and agreed to wait until the Malayalam version begins filming.
According to Jeethu, the shoot for Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3 is scheduled to commence in October 2025. He also revealed that he has been working diligently on the script, finalizing its climax after months of effort. The director mentioned his dedication to the project, stating that he has been waking up as early as 3:30 AM to focus on completing the writing process.
The Drishyam franchise, which first captivated audiences in 2013 with Mohanlal’s portrayal of Georgekutty, has since become a pan-Indian success story. Its gripping narrative about a man protecting his family at all costs has been adapted into multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and even in Sinhala and Chinese. The Hindi adaptations, led by Ajay Devgn, have also enjoyed significant box office success, with the second installment releasing in 2022.
Jeethu’s insistence on maintaining the Malayalam version’s timeline highlights his commitment to preserving the integrity and originality of his story. He emphasized that the Malayalam film will always serve as the foundation upon which remakes are built. With Mohanlal returning once again to his iconic role, Drishyam 3 promises to offer a fitting and thrilling conclusion to the much-loved trilogy. Jeethu also expressed confidence that, moving forward, all versions will coordinate better, but the Malayalam film will remain the primary version.
