Actor Ishwak Singh reflected on a defining moment in his career, crediting filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt for giving him the confidence to pursue acting professionally. He shared how Bhatt’s words of encouragement after watching his theater performance became the turning point in his journey from stage to screen.
Recalling his experience with The Last Salute, a play that Bhatt promoted and presented, Ishwak spoke about how that moment shaped his career.
“Bhatt sahab was the reason I decided to take up acting professionally. After watching my play, he gave me a pat on my back backstage. Until then, I was still finding my feet, but that gesture gave me the courage to take the plunge into Bollywood. I thought to myself that if Bhatt sahab thinks I’m good, then I surely have it in me. His words of encouragement cleared all the self-doubt, and I never looked back or questioned my ability,” says Ishwak Singh.
For Ishwak, who had built a strong foundation in theater, transitioning to cinema was filled with uncertainty. The film industry can be unpredictable, and self-doubt often creeps in, even for the most talented artists. But Bhatt’s validation gave him the reassurance he needed to trust his abilities and move forward with confidence.
Since then, Ishwak has carved a niche for himself with performances that blend depth, intensity, and authenticity. His breakthrough role in Paatal Lok showcased his ability to embody complex characters, while his portrayal of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai in Rocket Boys earned him widespread acclaim. Now, with Tumko Meri Kasam, he is set to captivate audiences once again, bringing another compelling character to life on the big screen.
Reflecting on his journey, Ishwak acknowledges the importance of mentorship in an actor’s growth. For him, Mahesh Bhatt’s words were more than just encouragement—they were the foundation on which he built his confidence, setting him on a path where self-doubt no longer held him back.
