Gadar was a huge blockbuster at the time of its release. Gadar did not emerge as an all time blockbuster but also became an all time grosser.
Gadar recorded a mammoth footfalls of 5 cr+ and still is the biggest hit of millennium for any Bollywood movie.
Gadar was released in 2001 and after 22 years makers are back with the sequel.
Gadar faced a clash at the Box Office vs Lagaan. Both the films emerged as huge hits at the box office.
Gadar 2 is all set to release on 11th August during Independence Day Weekend and will clash with Akshay Kumar starrer OMG 2.
Today at the press conference of Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava song, Anil Sharma shared the process which went behind making Gadar 2.
Anil Sharma said, “I always wanted to make Gadar 2. Many distributors and Zee Studios kept asking me about the sequel. Sunny Deol sir also asked me many times, do I have any story for Gadar 2, and I kept on saying, no sir, nothing yet. I heard more than 100 stories for Gadar 2 and I myself had 10 to 20 ideas in my mind.”
He further said, “I kept on asking Shaktimaan ji, if he had any story but we were not getting the idea. I didn’t want to use the brand of Gadar. Gadar is an emotion for billions of people and I did not want to play with people’s emotion.”
He added by saying, “If I do anything wrong with Gadar 2, people won’t spare me. I needed a story which could do complete justice to the sequel. I needed a story which had emotions.”
By remembering the narration and finalizing the script, he said, “I remember, when I had narrated the story of the first part it was finalized in 5 minutes and I needed a story which should be finalized within the first 5 minutes.”
He concluded by saying, “The idea was finalized by Sunny sir, Puneet Goyal and Shariq (Zee Studios) and in 5 minutes agreement was signed and the whole setup was created. The story which is understood within 5 minutes is always the perfect and right story. We do not want to misuse the brand value of Gadar but want to use the soul of Gadar.”
Gadar 2 is directed and produced by Anil Sharma. The film is also produced by Zee Studios. The film stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma in the lead roles.
