Karan Johar had announced one of the most ambitious and biggest projects of his life ‘Takht’. The film was announced in 2018 and was to be directed by Karan Johar himself.
The makers had done prep for Takht for more than 2 and half years. The location scout team had also finalized the shoot locations in India.
The film was announced with a huge star cast consisting of Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor. Takht had one of the biggest casts which any Bollywood film had ever witnessed, assembling for a single project.
Karan Johar’s dream project seemed to be like a dream come true at the time of announcement with a stellar cast only possible in dreams. Karan Johar made it possible but pandemic hit the world and film.
Once the pandemic started KJO dropped off making Takht and announced another rom-com titled ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ with Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles.
At the post-release success press conference, Karan Johar was seen saying about Takht and what went behind making RRKPK. He also spoke about how Ranveer and Alia came on board for this project.
While addressing the media he said, “The beginning of this film was 2 telephonic conversations I had. As you all know we were going to make Takht and then a pandemic came and momentarily we kept Takht aside. Takht was a huge film and due to the pandemic it was not technically possible to make such a huge film. It was the time of lockdown and I used to sit in my room. I just wrote a rough idea about this film during lockdown. Then of course it was brought together by the brilliance of Shashank Khaitan, Ishita Moitra and Sumit Roy and a big shout out to Sumen Mishra who governed all of them like a true rockstar. They wrote the film and I had 2 telephonic chats, I called Rocky (Ranveer Singh) and Rani (Alia Bhatt). I told them I don’t have much of the story, I just have a tiny idea. I asked them if they were doing it, they said we are doing it, we are on it. They were like write it fast, we are doing it. So it was too easy. Alia is like a daughter of Dharma Productions but with Ranveer it was my 1st professional project. I will be always grateful to Ranveer for coming on board for this film on pure conviction and pure regard. Alia’s emotional launch has been Student Of The Year but her professional launch has been Highway. And after that she went to the highway straight and did not go here and there (as a compliment).”
We just hope that Karan Johar makes Takht someday, as it is one of his most ambitious projects. He had said in an interview that he will start working on Takht just after RRKPK.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is Karan Johar’s 7th directorial film. The film was released in cinemas on 28th July. The film stars Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi and Jaya Bachchan in the lead roles.
