Akshay plays the role of Jaswant Singh Gill aka Capsule Gill. Jaswant Singh Gill was a brave and diligent mining engineer who rescued 65 miners trapped in a flooded coal mine at the Raniganj Coalfields in 1989.
We at Film Window got a chance to do an exclusive chance to interview Akshay Kumar for Mission Raniganj.
In this interview Akshay revealed about what attracted him to do this film.
While interacting with us Akshay said, “The one thing which attracted me to do this film was Sardar Jaswant Singh Gill who knows that there are 65-70 miners trapped in a coal mine. It’s a sure death to go down there. I was thinking about the mindset of that person who tells me that I will go down. There would be very few people in this world who would first care about the lives of others and then their own. He first sends all the miners up and he himself goes at the last. The goodness and truth about this story attracted me to do this film. Jaswant Singh Gill being a true man who made a huge sacrifice made me do this film.”
Akshay further added by saying, “Imagine locking up yourself in a cupboard for 48 hours. You feel suffocated and it’s not possible. When our elevators stop, we get exhausted. There is dangerous gas and water down there. Also note one thing, that there is no light down there. 300 feet down there, it’s absolutely cold. Despite knowing all these things, that person says I’ll go down. His wife was also pregnant and he was going to become a dad soon.”
Mission Raniganj is directed by Rustom fame Tinu Suresh Desai and produced by Pooja Entertainment.
