On this day, 22 years ago, Indian Cinema witnessed one of the biggest clashes ever. The huge clash happened between Gadar and Lagaan. Gadar became the one of the most watched and one of the most loved films whereas Lagaan became a Landmark film in Indian Cinema.
Lagaan was one of the costliest films at that time and was a risky project. Aamir Khan had revealed many times that many of his friends and relatives suggested that he shouldn’t produce and make this film. Aamir believed in the director’s vision and went ahead with the film and the rest is history. Lagaan turned out to be a classic and became a landmark film. Lagaan got global recognition and was widely popular worldwide. Lagaan became one of the three films (Mother India and Salaam Bombay) to get nominated in Best Film in Foreign Language Category at Oscars.
Gadar was one of the most commercially designed films at the time of its release. The film was about Sunny Paaji against the whole nation (Pakistan). Gadar made the masses go crazy as it had India vs Pakistan. Gadar has still the most no. of footfalls for a Bollywood film in this millennium. Gadar is the biggest Bollywood hit of this millennium and no film has come close to it till date. The film has registered a mammoth footfall of 5 cr.
Lagaan had India vs England (Britishers) and Gadar had India vs Pakistan. For any Indian, India vs Pakistan is any day bigger than anything in the world. Gadar had more commercial elements than Lagaan and the subject made it the winner of the clash.
This was one of those rare clashes, where both the films emerged as clean hits.

After 22 years, the sequel of Gadar is going to be released. The sequel of Gadar is titled Gadar 2. Just like the prequel, Gadar 2 is also going to face a clash at the Box Office. This time it’s a 3 way clash for Gadar 2 at the Box Office. Gadar 2 is all set to clash with Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal and Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2.
The clash is going to take place on 11th August during the Independence Day weekend. Gadar 2 is going to be full of patriotism and that’s the reason it has selected this date. It’s going to be clash of titans at the Box Office. We’ll have to wait and see which film emerges as a winner.
