Dunki emerges as Shah Rukh Khan’s lowest opener of 2023 and his 5th biggest opener of all time

Shah Rukh Khan has ruled the year 2023 like a king. He made a solid comeback with Pathaan and revived the Bollywood Box Office. 

Pathaan smashed each and every possible record and created history at the Box Office. Pathaan was a record opener and an All Time Grosser for Bollywood. 

Pathaan opened 400 cr, 450 cr and 500 cr clubs for Bollywood. Pathaan went on to collect 524.53 cr in its lifetime. 

SRK’s next release after Pathaan was Atlee’s masala action entertainer titled Jawan. Jawan went past Pathaan’s numbers and the Box office history was rewritten. Jawan opened a 550 cr club for Bollywood. 

Shah Rukh Khan’s 3rd release of the year ‘Dunki’, was directed by Bollywood’s best director Rajkumar Hirani. At the time of its announcement, Dunki was looking like a sureshot blockbuster. 

By looking at the form of Shah Rukh Khan, it was assumed that Dunki will be opening a 600 cr club for Bollywood. 

It came as a huge shock that Rajkumar Hirani had failed this time and made a strictly average film. Dunki turned out to be Rajkumar Hirani’s weakest film till date and ended up as a big disappointment. 

The negative WOM came into effect and Dunki managed to collect only 29.20 cr on its opening day. The potential of Dunki was much higher than what it collected on its opening day. 

Dunki emerged as the lowest opening film of SRK in 2023. Though the drama genre doesn’t have a bigger scope like the action genre at the Box Office, the numbers are very disappointing by looking at the names associated with Dunki.
