The trend of remakes in Bollywood has been a never ending process since the last couple of years. Yaariyan 2 is another example of how to ruin the original film. Yaariyan 2 is a remake of Malayalam film Bangalore Days. This film can be labeled as one of the worst remakes ever made in Bollywood.
T-Series is the production house who produces the highest numbers of films in a single year in Bollywood. T-Series’ streak of making crap films continues with Yaariyan 2. Yaariyan 2 joins the elite list of craps by Bhushan Kumar in 2023 along with Kuttey, Faraaz, Shehzada, Adipurush and Sukhee.
Yaariyan was a badly made film which somehow appealed to youth and emerged as a semi-hit at the Box Office. Yaariyan 2 is a forcefully and unnecessarily made sequel which no one asked for.
Yaariyan 2 follows the journeys of three cousins, Shikhar (Meezaan Jafri), Ladli (Divya Khosla Kumar) and Bajrang (Pearl V Puri), as they navigate their adventures, dreams and self-discovery in Mumbai. The story revolves around Ladli’s troubled marriage to Abhay (Yash Dasgupta), her uncovering of his past love story, and their subsequent divorce. Simultaneously, Bajju experiences heartbreak in his pursuit of love, while Shikhar, facing a ban from bike racing, finds solace in his work and an unexpected friendship with Ikroor, a paraplegic girl. The film explores the theme of friendship, love and the transformative power of human relations.
Bangalore Days is one of the most popular films made in Malayalam cinema. It appealed to every section of the audience and has a solid repeat value. The film was a coming of age romantic drama and a complete package of entertainment. The film had a message, emotions, comedy, romance, drama, music, etc. The characters were relatable and were smartly written. On top of all these things the film had a powerful star cast consisting of Dulquer Salmaan, Fahadh Faasil, Nivin Pauly, Nazriya Nazim, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Nithya Menen, etc.
The makers of Yaariyan 2 copied frame to frame of Bangalore Days and delivered a dull product. What Ram Gopal Varma did with Sholay and made Aag, T-Series made Yaariyan 2 by destroying Bangalore Days.
Performance is the worst thing about Yaariyan 2. Making a remake of a film like Bangalore Days was a good idea. Bangalore Days has a good repeat value and adapting it in a proper way would have been wonderful.
Imagine, Meezaan Jafri playing the role of Dulquer Salmaan, Yash Dasgupta playing the role of Fahadh Faasil, Divya playing the role of Nazriya Nazim, Pearl playing the role of Nivin Pauly, Anaswara Ranjan playing the role of Parvathy Thiruvothu and Bhagyashree Borse playing Nithya Menen. The casting is a big let down. The cast of Yaariyan 2 is not even 1% close to the amazing cast of Bangalore Days. Yaariyan 2 made with a better cast would have turned out to be a a decent film. The film is completely destroyed because of the poor performances by all the actors.
Divya Khosla Kumar deserves the worst performer of the year award. The way she acts in emotional scenes, comedy scenes, romantic scenes and in the whole film is a big threat to your eyes. Her dialogue delivery is so bad, that you feel like she should have been given a mute character to play. Divya looks extremely gorgeous in each and every scene. Looking beautiful and acting beautiful are two different things which she should understand and quit acting. Meezaan Jafri was promising in Malaal but disappointed with Hungama 2. Yaariyan 2 once again doesn’t give justice to his talent. Meezaan has a very good voice and can do wonders if he tries to do an intense role in future. Pearl V Puri gives a tough competition to Divya Khosla Kumar in terms of acting. Pearl should have focused on acting in TV serials. Acting in a daily soap and acting in a featured film are two different things and Pearl should understand this. Yash Dasgupta tries too hard to act but falls flat. He is irritating in most of the scenes. Anaswara Ranjan looked a bit promising in the beginning but only does overacting. Warina Hussain goes unnoticed. Bhagyashree Borse is below average. Priya Prakash Varrier doesn’t get any dialogue and hardly gets a screen presence of 1 minute. Lillete Dubey and Murali Sharma need better scripts to showcase their talent.
Yaariyan 2 has a complex and confusing screenplay. The film has dumb characters who are busy doing all the useless things on-screen. The performances of all the actors is a big letdown which ruins the whole experience. Each and every scene looks cringe on-screen and feels like torture.
Yaariyan 2 becomes unbearable from the very first scene. The film is completely scattered and goes off the track. It feels like a long boring TV serial with a high dose of melodrama. The whole presentation looks cheap, mediocre and outdated.
The average music of Yaariyan 2 gives some sort of relief during this disastrous show. Saure Ghar, Oonchi Oonchi Deewarein and Blue Hai Paani Paani are enjoyable tracks. The rest of the album is below par.
The director duo of Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru should only focus on directing video songs. The 5 minute video song is unbearable, so making a 150 minute long film is definitely a torture. The direction is extremely terrible. The worst director award of the year will definitely be waiting for the duo.
The writers tried hard to ruin a beautiful script and excelled in that. The writers ensured that they would destroy every bit of Bangalore Days and passed on it.
Overall Yaariyan 2 is a badly made film with pathetic performances, terrible direction and cringe writing. It’s among one of the worst remakes ever made in Bollywood. Instead of watching Yaariyan 2 in cinemas or on OTT, one should watch Bangalore Days to celebrate life and good cinema. Skip it.
