In the past Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Priyanka Chopra were Bollywood celebrities which have featured on the Cover of Time Magazine. The article has been titled ‘Deepika Padukone is bringing the World to Bollywood.’
Deepika Padukone had received backlash for 3 of her previous films. Padmaavat faced protest from Karni Sena. Padmaavat was initially titled Padmavati, but later on the title was changed to Padmaavat. In 2020, she was heavily trolled for her visit to the JNU campus for supporting students. Her visit was heavily trolled and it affected her 1st film as a producer, Chhapaak which was a flop at the Box Office. Recently, she was trolled by a certain political group for wearing an orange bikini in the Besharam Rang song from the film Pathaan. She was alleged for hurting religious sentiments.
Being asked about the backlash faced, Deepika said, “I don’t know if I’m supposed to feel something about it. But the truth is, I don’t feel anything about it.”
Deepika said, “Indian cinema has transcended borders and Indians are everywhere. So the fame goes wherever you go. I didn’t have a game plan for how to get here, but I didn’t see failure on my vision board.”
“This is India’s moment. So how can I marry the best of the East and the West? There’s India with our roots, our heritage, our history, but there’s also a new and young India that’s emerging. It’s these two Indias coming together that I find really fascinating at this moment.”
Deepika about India winning an Oscar said, “It is beginning to realize that its movies are not just limited to Hindi films. But I don’t think we should be happy with one Oscar for a song and another for a documentary. I hope we can look at this as the beginning of an opportunity.”
