Legendary Actor Anupam Kher is celebrating his 68th Birthday Today. Anupam Kher has acted majorly in Hindi films. He has also acted in English, Malayalam, Punjab, Tamil and Telugu films. He has acted in more than 500 films and has been entertaining us through the last 4 decades.
He has been awarded Padma Shri in 2004 (Fourth Highest Civilian Honor) and Padma Bhushan (Third Highest Civilian Honor) in 2016 for his valuable contribution in Indian Cinema. He has also served as a chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in 2003-04.
Anupam Kher has directed only 1 film in his career till date. He has directed Om Jai Jagdish which starred Anil Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan and Fardeen Khan in lead roles.
Anupam Kher made his debut in 1984 with Mahesh Bhatt directorial Saaransh. Anupam Kher played the role of a 65 year old middle class teacher who loses his son. Kher was only 29 when portrayed the role of a 65 year old man. His acting in Saaransh was appreciated and even after many years of its release it is regarded as Kher’s one of the best performances ever. He also won Filmfare Award For The Best Actor for his performance in Saaransh. After Saaransh he did many films but they were not that successful. Later in that decade, in 1988 his performance in Tezaab was highly appreciated. Tezaab was the highest grossing film of that year. In 1989, he became more popular with Ram Lakhan, Parinda, Nigahen and Daddy. In between 1990-99 he was a part of many popular films like Dil, Lamhe, Beta, Khel, Darr, Laadla, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, DDLJ, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, etc. Anupam Kher was popular for playing comic characters and villainous characters in 80s and 90s. He then went on to become a part of many successful and popular films released after 2000. A Wednesday, which was released in 2008 remains his career best film. He was also a part of Historic Blockbuster The Kashmir Files which did unimaginable business at the box office last year.
