There are many actors who have tried their hand at direction, and Kunal Kemmu is one of them. Kunal made his directorial debut with Madgaon Express back in 2024, and now he is all set with his 2nd directorial film, Vibe, which is all set to release on September 18. The film is produced by Kunal along with Chirag Nihalani.
Vibe is an action-comedy film and stars Preity Zinta in the female lead. The film also stars Laapataa Ladies fame Sparsh Shrivastava and Bhojpuri superstar Dinesh Lal Yadav.
We at Film Window got an exclusive opportunity to interview Kunal Kemmu and Preity Zinta for Vibe.
Kunal Kemmu has worked as a child artist and a lead actor, directed films, and has also tried his hand at writing. While speaking about the acting and directing process for him, he said, “Everything seems difficult in the beginning, but once you start walking, you begin to understand how everything works. During Madgaon Express, I didn’t know whether I would be able to direct, but it happened. I also did a cameo in Madgaon Express, and that made me feel that I could do both things together with Vibe. Acting is my first love.”
While explaining the major difference between acting and direction, Kunal said, “When you are an actor, you mostly think about your own role, but when you become a director, you have to think about everyone because you have to take the entire film forward.”
Kunal will next be seen in Golmaal 5. Talking about Rohit Shetty and Golmaal 5, he said, “Rohit Shetty makes big films with big stars on a big scale, and I wish to do the same in the future. Golmaal 5 is for true Golmaal fans. Rohit has made sure that the Golmaal franchise is enjoyed by kids, and in Golmaal 5 too, he has taken care of the fact that it has a lot to offer to children as well.”
Preity Zinta, while talking about working under Kunal’s direction, said, “The approach I had in mind for my character was very different from Kunal’s vision. Kunal is very particular about what he wants, and he corrected me whenever I went a little off track. I’ve learnt that whenever you have any doubt, you should always follow the director because a film is completely his vision. When I came back after a break, I told myself that I would come as a newcomer because I have changed, cinema has changed, and time has changed, and I don’t want to come with any preconceived notions.”
Kunal also confirmed that the scripting for Madgaon Express 2 is completed.
