In a fiery and unfiltered chat with Filmwindow, veteran composer Nadeem Akhtar Saifi opened up about the song Saiyaara from Ahaan Panday’s recent film, and let’s just say, he didn’t sugarcoat anything.

Nadeem, best known for his iconic work in films like Aashiqui, Saajan, and Deewana, said point blank that Saiyaara’s success wasn’t because of the music at all, it was because of the way it was filmed and presented by director Mohit Suri and the production team.

“Is gaane ki popularity music ki wajah se nahi hai. Ye director aur producer ka kamaal hai. Mohit Suri ne usse beautifully shoot kiya hai, usi wajah se logon ko pasand aaya,” Nadeem said.

He went on to criticise the song’s actual composition, saying that while it might sound good in the moment, it doesn’t leave a lasting impression. “Aap gaana uske ek ya do lines se zyada gaa kar dikha do. Mushkil hai.” “Mere hisaab se Saiyaara ka music aur bhi behtar ho sakta tha.”

According to Nadeem, music that truly hits the heart has recall value, something that makes people hum it even years later. That’s what he thinks is missing in many modern songs.

The conversation turned even more interesting when the interviewer pointed out that soulful tracks like Saiyaara are often compared to the legendary Aashiqui songs.

To this, Nadeem responded with his signature confidence “Agar maine Saiyaara ka music kiya hota, toh woh 2000 crore ka business karti,” he declared. He also added that songs from Aashiqui continue to live in people’s hearts even decades later, something that newer songs struggle to achieve.
