Rupali Ganguly on at TMC Leader who called her Flop Actress

Rupali Ganguly, the well-known television actress turned politician, recently found herself at the center of a political controversy after a heated exchange on social media with a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader. The situation started when Rupali criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on X (formerly Twitter). She questioned her priorities and urged her to focus on pressing issues in West Bengal, particularly in places like Sandeshkhali and Murshidabad, instead of getting involved in matters concerning Assam. Rupali’s tweet directly challenged the Chief Minister’s governance. She stated that before shedding “crocodile tears” for Bengalis in other states, Mamata Banerjee should first address the problems facing those in her own state.

In response to Rupali’s comment, TMC leader Nilanjan Das personally attacked her, calling her a “flop soap actress” and dismissing her views on political matters. Instead of backing down, Rupali provided a firm and dignified reply. She asked whether Mamata Banerjee, as the state’s elected leader, was above question. She wondered if criticism of the government was now considered a challenge to a dictatorship. Rupali also noted that such reactions reflected the usual behavior of TMC representatives, who appear more interested in defending their leader than in having constructive conversations.

Rupali’s stance received praise from her supporters on social media, who admired her for standing firm and speaking out boldly, despite the personal attack. Many argued that dismissing her as a “flop actress” was unfounded, considering her successful and long career in television. Rupali Ganguly is best known for her roles in Sanjivani, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, and currently Anupamaa, which has been one of Indian television’s highest-rated shows since its launch in 2020.

Since joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in May 2024, Rupali has taken on her political role alongside her acting career. She has openly discussed her struggles in the entertainment industry, including facing the casting couch, and how television ultimately became her space to excel. This recent exchange highlights her readiness to tackle political challenges directly, reinforcing her presence beyond the entertainment world. Her calm yet assertive response is viewed as an example of how public figures can handle personal attacks with dignity while keeping the attention on larger issues.
