Don’t keep this tenant on rent (your watchlist) even if it’s willing to pay you double the rent. I guess this statement sums up how bad the film is. The best thing about this film is that it ended. The duration of the film is only 112 minutes but the film will test your patience level like you have been watching this one for 112 hours.
Shamita Shetty was last seen in a film 16 years ago, and now returns to films with this dud product which no is gonna remember. Shamita should have chosen a better script instead of this crap. If Shamita gets a chance to delete that 1 bad film from her filmography, I bet she will choose this film.
A conservative Mumbai suburb is bestirred by the arrival of an alluring cosmopolitan woman named Meera/Sonia (Shamita Shetty) in their midst. When a wide-eyed 13-year-old boy (Rudhraksh Jaiswal) pursues a friendship with her, he stumbles upon her secret past and is thrust headlong into adulthood. Shamita plays the role of an independent urban girl who used to be a model in the past and people living in the society judge her by her dressing sense and doubt her character. Things take a drastic turn when a video from her past is leaked. The Tenant tells about the problems faced by the urban girl and how the society members trouble her and how she tackles them forms the crux of the story.
Shamita has acted her part well as the modern urban girl and looks glamorous on-screen. The kid Rudhraksh Jaiswal has also done a decent job. The supporting cast has many known actors like Sheeba Chadha, Swanand Kirkire, Harsh Mayar, Dayanand Shetty, Atul Srivastava, Divya Jagdale, etc. and all of them are wasted, writing is at fault here.
The Tenant is too predictable and you won’t get to see any new stuff. There are many stories running together but nothing is presented well and you will get bored. This presentation is too cheap. Sushrut Jain, the director doesn’t even know the basics of filmmaking and we can see many faults in his direction. The film loses its track in each and every scene and the audience will be like ab bas karo yaar (enough of this shit). The screenplay, the editing, the cinematography and the writing isn’t upto the mark.
The Tenant tries to show the relationship between an old woman and a younger boy but fails miserably. The Tenant tries to show multiple things but ends up being a messy affair, and I would like to tell director Sushrut that when you can’t handle a single topic properly why to indulge in multiple things. There are uncountable flaws in characters. At one point of time you will see the character acting intellectual and in another scene acting like a dumb fellow, only director Sushrut will be able to answer how this is possible. This is a Hinglish film whose majority of dialogues are in English and those abusive english words are used unnecessarily and don’t fit much in the narrative.
The Tenant behaves like an intellectual one but ends up being a dumb affair. Thankfully, no one knows much about this film and this is one of the greatest news for cinema lovers. Such films don’t even deserve to stream on OTT, forget about the theatrical release. A crap film with a complete headache. Easily, The Tenant is one of the worst films to come out in the past few months. The one who survives this headache should be given a medal.
The Tenant will be releasing in Cinemas on 10th February, 2023.
