Shefali Jariwala, best known as the vibrant face behind the early-2000s hit music video Kaanta Laga, tragically passed away at the age of 42 on the night of June 27, 2025. The actress and former Bigg Boss 13 contestant was found unconscious at her Oshiwara residence in Mumbai and was immediately rushed to Bellevue Multispecialty Hospital in Andheri by her husband, actor Parag Tyagi, and their staff. Unfortunately, doctors declared her “brought dead” upon arrival.
In the initial investigation, Mumbai Police have stated that the probable cause of death was a sudden and severe drop in blood pressure, which may have triggered cardiac arrest. Authorities have not found any evidence of foul play so far and have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) at the Amboli police station.
According to police reports, Shefali had observed a full-day fast on June 27 for a religious Satyanarayan Puja at her home. In the evening, she reportedly ate food stored in the refrigerator, after which her health deteriorated rapidly. She collapsed shortly afterward, and despite immediate medical help, could not be revived.
One important detail emerging from the police inquiry is the fact that Shefali had taken an anti-ageing injection earlier that day, around 3 PM, and had also taken some of her regular medications — all on an empty stomach due to her fasting. Investigators suspect that the combination of fasting, refrigerated food, medication, and the cosmetic injection may have caused her blood pressure to plummet sharply.
The Amboli police have taken all necessary legal steps in the matter. A forensic team was sent to her residence, where they collected samples of the food she had eaten, medication, and the injection vial. A total of 14 people — including her husband, household staff, her personal chef, and friends — have given statements to the police.
While some unverified chats between Shefali and her friend hinted that she had plans for the night, authorities have made it clear that nothing suspicious has been found in those conversations. The post-mortem examination was conducted at Cooper Hospital in Mumbai, and its official report is awaited to confirm the exact cause of death.
Shefali’s final rites were performed at the Oshiwara crematorium on June 28, with close family, friends, and members of the television and film industry in attendance. Tributes poured in from across the country, remembering her not just for her iconic music video but also for her appearances in reality shows and her charm both on and off screen.
Shefali Jariwala’s untimely demise has left fans and the entertainment industry in deep shock. Known for her fitness-conscious lifestyle, Shefali had remained active in the entertainment space, often seen at social events and fashion shoots. Her sudden death is a grim reminder of how delicate the balance of health can be — especially when religious fasting, medical treatments, and lifestyle practices intersect.
Police continue to await the final autopsy report, which will determine whether her death was solely due to medical causes or if any further action is required. At present, no signs of foul play or external injuries have been detected, and investigations are proceeding under standard protocol.
