It’s been three decades since Somy Ali’s film Andolan released, and the actress marked the day with an endearing post for her co-actor Sanjay Dutt on Instagram. She posted a collage of pictures from the shoot of the film, and wrote about her initial nervousness while working on the film. She expressed gratitude for Sanjay’s patience and support during her debut scenes.

“30 YEARS!!!!!!!! ANDOLAN My first time facing the camera with Sanju! To say I was nervous would be an understatement having grown up watching him in Naam and so many other movies. But Sanju made me feel extremely comfortable by chit chatting about the U.S. I just can’t believe it’s been 30 years!” she captioned the picture as saying.

Released in 1995, Andolan, also featured Govinda and Divya Bharti. The story of the film revolved around two brothers who struggled to get justice against societal evils.

“I became very close to Divya during an outdoor shoot. Primarily because of her being all heart. She never held back and always spoke to the truth. We lost not only an unbelievable talent, but a beautiful person in totality. I thank Sajid Nadiadwala for giving me an opportunity of facing the camera for the face time with none other than the nicest human being in the world being,” she says.

She adds, “What can one say about Govinda. Too bad I didn’t get to work with him aside from a cameo, but chichi is like no other human being in that industry. I respect him not only for his outstanding talent, but for being the nicest plus kindest person ever with the most honest and beautiful wife. Cheers to 30 years of Andolan. I still can’t believe it and I dedicate this to all involved in the making of this film.”

On the work front, Somy runs a US-based NGO called No More Tears, through which she tirelessly struggles to save, protect and rehabilitate domestic violence and rape victims.
